#DevChat Log: Jonathan Gustafsson
I had the pleasure to have a little chat with Jonathan Gustafsson from Ascension Games, one of the 4 -fantastic four, anyone? no? okā¦- people behind āProject Cornerstoneā, an open-world, physics based adventure game. They have a Kickstarer campaign going on so if you are interested, support the game by clapping your hands in front of your monitor; or by bribing them into doing it. Well, you know what to do, itās not rocket science.
This is a near exact copy of the chat log, so don't expect any correct grammar or punctuation.
jonathan: hey! Square Tetromino: hi there, oh god what kind of pic is that :D jonathan: :D Naked mile ;) jonathan: with underware Square Tetromino: okay letās get down to biz jonathan: Ha! yeah! Square Tetromino: Could you please introduce yourself, your role and stuff jonathan: yeah! sry for the delay ;) jonathan: my name is jontahan Gustafsson, and i am the lead developer/ 3D artist! Square Tetromino: So may I call you Jon in short? do they call you something else? jonathan: yeah! ;) Square Tetromino: Okay, I guess I will you fancy pants? hahahaha Square Tetromino: *call grrr jonathan: hah! Square Tetromino: Well, letās move on to the real deal. Firstly, good luck with the Kickstarter. Square Tetromino: It started today i am guessing. jonathan: Thanks man! yeah or last nigt ;) Square Tetromino: Time zones :S The first thing that caught my eye was this āco-operativeā game development idea which seemed brilliant. jonathan: yeah we wanted to use the kickstarters full potential Square Tetromino: Considering the vision of people about the game may clash at some point, how are you planning to balance everyoneās opinion? jonathan: yeah we thougt about that! :P we are going to open a private forum, jonathan: and there we will have collums about the different aerias of development jonathan: people will vote up each otherās idĆ©as and it will be a cind of democracy Square Tetromino: Seems like the best option. Do you think it might evolve into something very different than what you previously conceptualized? Will the team act like a supervisor in all areas or leave some areas to the players? jonathan: yeah! i migt evolve to something different, wich is why al the info about the game is cind of vague, but we will aso be a part of the development and guide the forum to what we think would work best with all the rest that are alredy decided jonathan: from the forum* jonathan: there are different inportant areas, and the less inportant the more free jonathan: like how is the main caracters hair gonna look or the caracter can jump super high jonathan: some thing affect gameplay and some dont, and thatās where we will be a little bit more Guiding Square Tetromino: Yeah, I see. How āopenā would the world be? Are you planing on some quests or tutorials to help new people familiarize with the aim of the game without geting them feeling lost? jonathan: yeah ofc were hoping for something like skyrim in that area, and a mix of zeldaā wind waker, maby you will get famiiar with the game first and then wi will give you āallā the fredom jonathan: and some aerias you wont be able to go to cus of maby your boat iāsnt good enougth jonathan: and you have to upgade it Square Tetromino: Speaking of which, the gfx has a N64 Zelda game feel to it and it will attract players. However, this also means āZomg! Zelda cloners! you suxxorrzz!ā kind of replies. Do you think fanboys/girls are threat for the game? jonathan: we were talking about that but i think our game is going to be so different from any zelda game because of itās physics, so i dont think they will have a problem with it, but id the forum wants it that way we will have to create it :P jonathan: if* Square Tetromino: I guess more of a physical gameplay rather than magical elements. jonathan: yeah Square Tetromino: no flute :P? jonathan: haha that would give them something to talk about ;) jonathan: nah nothing like that, i mean the comunity will decide Square Tetromino: ah and no bad guys? jonathan: ha you will have to fight someone, but who, how, when and whereā¦? Square Tetromino: hmmm someone, humans⦠jonathan: something jonathan: :D Square Tetromino: human with a pants on his head then, thats something jonathan: yeah riding on a raccoon Square Tetromino: oww yeah adventure pants! Square Tetromino: well it seems that the main type of transport will be the ship, wil there also be air transportation? jonathan: yeah i would like that! something cooler more od than a regular boat! jonathan: we went with the bot just for the moment jonathan: boat* jonathan: we wanted to make a cool cloud that you ride on.. jonathan: but that part is also up to the forum to decide; jonathan: people are amazing at idĆ©as Square Tetromino: yeah they wil want āfus-roh-dah!ā first :P jonathan: haha! jonathan: and im like: i wanna make a new game dammit! :P jonathan: ether that or i may be some weired unicorn with seal paws Square Tetromino: Elderly Scrolls: Tyrim! jonathan: yeah! jonathan: anyway! do you have all you need? jonathan: :D jonathan: i coĆnd of have to go jonathan: cind* Square Tetromino: last question? jonathan: yeah! Square Tetromino: What is your view of steam? Do you think it is restrictive and against the āindipendent gameā ideal? jonathan: no i dont think so! i mean they do have some indie games but they have to keep standard i guess, but now with greenligt i think they doing good Square Tetromino: and quick! choose from: Sega or Nintendo/Mario or Sonic/Apple or Banana/Cod or MoH! hah take that! jonathan: only one? Square Tetromino: like one from each pair jonathan: nintendo, mario, apple, and Cod jonathan: :D Square Tetromino: hahah okay, It was nice knowing you and talking to you, good luck with the game and bye for now. jonathan: yeah same to you! youāre a nice guy! bye!
