Project 19: Free For All
Hey errybody! I'd like to debut The Letter Society's new look! This is based on my submission to last month's challenge. We worked collaboratively to come up with something that we all felt represented our group well. It's new! It's modern! It's sexy! It's The Letter Society!

Project 18: Letter Society Rebrand
When it came to rebranding the Letter Society, I knew I wanted to preserve the "LSo." lockup that had been established from the beginning. I went through different combinations of existing typefaces, tried my hand at creating a hand-lettered version (which yielded subpar results), then in the end chose to render my own letters digitally.
It's hard to believe what's come from this blog. A number of us, myself included, owe our current jobs to the exposure that we've gained from our submissions. Thank you to my fellow Society members for making this one hell of a year!

For this redesign I decided to approach the rebrand with the mindset of a slight modernization. Overall, I was really happy with the previous (existing) branding, so I wanted to make something that was a logical evolution of the established look and feel.
Here I decided that there can and should be more image integration into the layout and design of the branding elements of the blog. I think our branding should be conceived to pay off higher and higher res displays in a way that's complimentary to our aesthetic.
I hope you like it!

Project 18 - Rebrand
I've never designed an app from the ground up before and wanted to give it a shot. Here is my Letter Society App. It’s built around the idea of critiquing work within a group.
I love a good critique. I love when someone gets really into the fine details of my project and can name specific ideas that could potentially make the work just a hint better. When I work on personal or private projects I usually reach out to a friend to see what they think of it. This app allows you to do that for multiple people in more private forum.
Once your work (or work-in-progress) is uploaded, group members are notified and have the ability to view/comment on the image via the app. You can draw on the image and call to eye specific ideas, leave notes questioning the concept, or simply say you like. All while you’re on the bus to work.
The same engine could potentially work within a class structure as well. Or really any group setting where individuals would like to draw critique from more than one person at the same time in a professional environment.
I stuck with the logo and color/gradient scheme that has served the group well for the last year. This is more of a reimagining of how work could be shared and improved before final postings.
Thank you all for having me for this challenge! And congratulations on the 1-year anniversary!

Project 18 - Rebrand
Hey everyone! It's been a big year of changes for for a bunch of us in the group. Three months ago I went and moved over to San Francisco, a couple weeks ago Nathan and Erik went and joined Jake over on the West Coast in the Los Angeles area. In addition to Fran starting work at a new place, we've all had some major shifts since we started Letter Society last November and I'm excited for what's to come.
In terms of the rebrand, I wanted to do more of an evolution than a revolution. The LS mark was a really good iconic one, so I decided to use that as the base for the rest of the redesign. I did go into it and did some pixel pushing, doing some edits to the main one to make it more cleaner and exact.
Taking inspiration from monogram marks is where I lead the new logo identity for a very important reason. As you can see by the initial header image, I propose that the LS brand be one that will be a free-flowing evolving identity.
It sounds odd to think about it, but with all the job changes, location changes and everything in between, the one thing that's stayed consistent in my life so far has been Letter Society and the work that I've been doing for it. So I felt personally that tying out down to a consistent look and feel ruins the nature of what we have been all managing to do so far. We are a collective that now spans from coast to coast and I wanted a system that emulated that.
So that also goes into the existing website design. I went with a persistent nav bar on the left side which would have rotating hero images depending on the project. This image would then form the dominant color of the website. As is with everything I do, I of course made sure that it would be responsive and work on mobile.
Cheers guys to a fantastic year! Also to all our followers, you're all awesome and we all appreciate that you take the time to visit us and enjoy our work.

So I cheated slash really didn't do the assignment. Instead, I did a set of icons as an homage to our very first project. I figured, these icons could be utilized or adapted to help brand our project announcements. I had fun creating these, which is the purpose of this group for me. I'm so grateful for the opportunity of working with this talent bunch. Everyone's work never ceases to impress and amaze me and I'm so glad we're still kicking after one year.
I also want to congratulate the recent members who have moved to the West Coast. It takes balls to go and move across the country for a killer gig. You guys are badass and California is really cool and all but you should probably come back to Chicago because it's gonna snow on Tuesday soooo.....
