Every so often you come across a moment/person that changes you forever. In 2014 one of my top clients Melanie, didn’t show up for session. I was baffled because she never in the years we trained together missed ONE. A few days later I get a call from Mel saying that she had been found unresponsive in her apartment by her brother and later admitted to the hospital. She had been diagnosed with bacterial meningitis and lost her ability to hear and walk. I was devastated. But Mel never played the victim roll or felt sorry for herself. She was determined to stay in shape and even get her job back as a nurse. So we got to work. When I first saw Mel she could barely stand without a walker. She had cochlear implants in her ears and head in an attempt to one day hear again so I came with the idea of music therapy during our sessions. I’d play some west coast hip hop (her favorite) and she would do her best to make out what it was. Communication was very difficult for us at first. I had to really step into her world by using my body language and other sensory based communication in order to connect with her and make progress. Weeks went by and it started working! She regained her ability to walk unassisted and continued to get in the best shape of her life. We lost 30lbs and regained her independence back into her life. Moments like this are the reason why I decided to hold my seminar at @complete.nyc February 24-26. I want everyone to experience what it’s like to create profound connection and produce resounding results with yourselves and your clients. I can’t wait to see you there! #strotherpt #personaldevelopment #personaltraining #continuingeducation #profoundchange #communication #behavioralhealth #newyork #completebody (at New York City, N.Y.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZecSYvuTTW/?utm_medium=tumblr
