Lord Stronghart? Is this your office? I must've gotten lost. I'm Lieutenant Columbo, homicide. Do you have the time? I think my watch is broken. It says 11:35 but I swear it’s earlier than that. It's a real shame about the old Lord Chief Justice. The thing about the Professor is his motive makes it hard to find suspects for this murder. Usually we'd ask who would benefit, like his heir, or someone like yourself, sir. But now I gotta figure out who might've thought a good fella like him was corrupt. Oh, I'm sure you're very busy with your new job. I'll get outta your hair.
There's just one thing bothering me. Do you have alibis for the Professor killings? I'm not suggesting it was you, sir, of course not. It's just—you're going to laugh—I actually thought the Professor might have been Lord van Zieks, at least until the Lord Chief Justice was killed. The thing is, he has a perfect alibi for each murder. Now I sure don't, most nights I'm home with my wife. If I knew when a murder was going to happen, I don't know about you, I'd get myself a better alibi. But that's not your problem, that's my problem.
"Nonsense. Believe me, Lieutenant."
"There is no one who wishes to see the Professor swing for these crimes more than I."
"As unfortunate as my predecessor's passing was, I will take full advantage of the power it affords me..."
"If it means I can bring his killer to justice."
"I'm afraid I can offer you no help in regards to alibis. I myself only have a clear alibi for the first murder."
"Most men in these offices stay long hours in the company of naught but their own work."
"Someone like Lord van Zieks, whose family faces inordinate publicity, is a rare exception to this."
"So, if your only lead is to check who was unaccounted for on those grisly nights, I pity you."
"If you have any further 'problems', feel free to run them by me."
"....But if that is quite all, I am very busy with my 'new job', as you so bluntly put it."
"Eleven fifty-five."
"You're rather late... Lieutenant."
