January 2, 2014
So forgive me if I'm still working out how statisticy/wordy I want to make this, but here goes the first one. January 2, 2014 - Day 001
Home to G Train: talking with wife about chocolate and architecture
Waiting for the G Train: listening on Kindle Fire: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Vrock radio station - it was left on from our ride back from Vermont yesterday (no CDs, crappy radio, so we just played this out loud). Turned it off very quickly after startling everyone in the Bedford-Nostrand G stop.
G Train: reading on Kindle Fire: WIRED Magazine: article about how aggregated data and conclusions driven from it are much more useful if there's a human 'common sense' element (e.g. a computer can beat a person playing chess, but a person using a computer can beat a computer playing chess). It's bad if a plow trucker (plower?) is being paid only based on the quantity of snow they move, since that encourages them to ignore black ice. Very fitting article at the start of this experiment.
L Train: squash level: low reading on Kindle Fire: WIRED Magazine: one article about a Japanese arborist fighting tsunamis with trees, and another about how Norway is reflecting sunlight into valleyed areas to attract tourists and increase worker productivity.Â
Union Square to Work: thinking about whether or not I should buy an ice scraper today. Would have listened to something, but couldn't dig out my headphones.
-------
Pretty straightforward. Should I be aggregating this data somehow? I dunno. Anyway, in the future expect PSP games, Kindle Fire games, Gameboy Color games, a lot of WIRED, various books, audiobooks, and podcasts. Maybe some posts will be more elaborate than this. Maybe some will have pictures, or even videos. We'll see! Happy 2014!
