Studio - Using Flash Light
Here are some of favourites from today:
Studio - Using Flash Light
Today in studio we were shooting portraits at the correct exposure but at different apertures. There was a 45 degree beauty dish to the right of my model.
1/125, F.5.6, ISO 100
1/125, F6.3, ISO 100
1/125, F8.0, ISO 100
STUDIO - FLASH LIGHTING
Our second exercise in the studio was to make portrait image using “Key-light” and “Fill-light”.
1. Shoot a portrait with a correctly exposed “key-light” with a “fill-light” set at the same aperture. In my case that was both light at F/4.
2. Shoot a portrait with a correctly exposed “key-light” with a “fill-light” set at minus 1 stop from “key-light”. In my case “fill-light” was F/2,8.
3. Shoot a portrait with a correctly exposed “key-light” with a “fill-light” set at minus 2 stops from key-light. In my case “fill light” was F/1,4.
My “key light” was a silver brolly and my “fill light” was a honeycomb. I again took some photos of Callum.
F4, 1/125s, ISO 100. Key light - F/4, Fill light - F/4.
F/4, 1/125s, ISO 100. Key light - F/4, Fill light - F/2,8.
F/4, 1/125s, ISO 100. Key light - F/4, Fill light - F/1,4.
Production practice - 3 point lighting
In the class this week in our groups we were tasked to take images with three point lighting. my group done ours twice with a different modifier on our fill light the second time.
First batch was with a umbrella modifier, a soft box (fill light) and a snoot.
For the task it was that we had to set the key light to a f/stop and match the fill light then change the fill light to - 1 stop from the key light twice.
First up both key and fill light are set to f/8.
Camera settings: 1/125, ISO 200, f/11
The next Image the key light was set to f/8 and the fill light was set at f/5.6 so that it was - 1 stop from the key light.
Camera settings: 1/125, ISO 200, f/8
The next Image the key light was set to f/8 and the fill light was set at f/4 so that it was - 2 stop from the key light.
Camera settings: 1/125, ISO 200, f/8
For our second set of images we had the umbrella modifier, a beauty dish (fill light) and a snoot.
The next Image the key light was set to f/8 and the fill light was set at f/8
Camera settings: 1/125, ISO 200, f/11
The next Image the key light was set to f/8 and the fill light was set at f/5.6 so that it was - 1 stop from the key light.
Camera settings: 1/125, ISO 200, f/8
The next Image the key light was set to f/8 and the fill light was set at f/4 so that it was - 2 stop from the key light.
Camera settings: 1/125, ISO 200, f/8

Flash-Lighting // Studio
In our class bubbles for our first studio challenge, we had to make a portrait image using a studio flash light, for my first image I had to shoot a correctly exposed image at f5.6
This is a photograph of Callum which I took on manual mode at f5.6, 1/125 and at an ISO of 100.
I then took another photograph of Callum at f16, 1/125 and at an ISO of 200.
Production Practice
Today in class we were put into bubbles and tasked to take 4 images with two different apertures and two different flash modifiers. This task was in turn to start getting used to how the studio flash lights worked and how to meter the light coming from the flash correctly to get the aperture you are looking for, in my images i chose to use the beauty-dish modifier and the umbrella modifier for the images and i chose the apertures f/8 and f/16.
These are the modifiers i used:
This is the umbrella modifier.
This is the beauty dish (i forgot to take an image while it was set up)
On to the images i will be showing them grouped together by aperture so first of is f/8.
This image is taken with the settings f/8, 1/125, ISO 100 with the modifier beauty dish.
And this image was taken with the settings f/8, 1/125, ISO 100 with the modifier umbrella.
These images are the aperture f/16.
This image is taken with the settings f/16, 1/125, ISO 250 with the modifier beauty dish.
And this one was taken with the settings f/16, 1/125, ISO 320 with the modifier umbrella.
Studio - Flash Lighting
Below are portraits I took of Adam at different apertures using a silver brolly lighting attachment.
- F8, 1/125, ISO 100
Speak No Evil. Hear No Evil.
- F16, 1/125, ISO 200
