The mammals inhabiting the lands of the Bird Empire, whose geography consists predominantly of deserts, savannas, and sclerophyll forests.

Prodeinotherium bavaricum was a deinotheriid proboscidean from the Middle Miocene of Europe. Deinotheriids are sometimes referred to as “chin-tusked elephants” but although they are proboscideans like true elephants they are not that closely related to our modern forms. Their large size, in some species equal to and even surpassing modern elephants, was independently evolved. Though they also have tusks, deinotheriids’ tusks sprout from the mandible, or lower jaw instead of the maxilla (upper jaw). Their use in such a position is still largely unknown, with wear patterns suggesting they may have assisted in browsing behavior.
