Cleocatra, Head of the House of Baast
Here's my initial sketch of Cleo, head of the House of Baast and mother of Mitzi, Mirage, and Ri (you can see their group shot here).
I'm calling this a sketch for now because It is a little rougher than my work usually is, but was thrown together for our dnd campaign so that we had something to show the players for this character. I hope to revisit her one day and see how I could elaborate on her design, but I LOVE how her initial design came out and it was a lot of fun trying to decide what the mother of three very different tabaxi kittens would look like, especially a women who was known for her beauty as the head of a prosperous exotic brothel in their city...
Have you ever created artwork for the parents of your main character(s)? What were the hardest challenges to work around?
The Cross-Dimensional Compass is an extremely powerful Crumevan artifact that allows the user to traverse spacetime. At some point it was cast into the depths of the ocean, by people that hoped that its power couldn’t be found and exploited there. It was, however, discovered by Captain Diel when she was a child, and she’s held onto it since. It is with this amulet that she travels and recruits crew members from across the multiverse.
The Compass functions on intention; the user simply thinks of where and when they want to go and opens a portal there. You can be as vague with these directions as you’d like; it will never take you somewhere you don’t want to go. (It is still wise to set specific ‘perameters’ if you want to visit a specific universe, however, even if those parameters are just visiting a world you have before or know a specific person from.) The portal opened can be of virtually any size, allowing Diel to travel using it herself or take her entire ship with her.
Not just anyone can use the Compass, however; it’s bound to a single user at a time by blood, and they have to shed their blood on it again (and someone else’s) to transfer ‘ownership’ of it. It does detach from a previous user when they die.
The larimar sphere isn’t physically attached to the rest of the Compass, but acts as if it’s held there by a strong magnet.
