Turquoise duet, susie david

My work is primarily about water, and this oil painting is about the sea and the sky singing to each other and their rhyme, being in this instance, the colour turquoise. There is a flow across the canvas of veils of transparent white, which suggest a sudden summer rainfall or a rush of a wave into a secluded rocky inlet. There is a subtle yet important flash of turquoise along the lower edge which resonates with the pool of turquoise in the higher right hand quadrant. The generous size of the canvas enables the imagination to wander around the different tracts of the piece and the minutiae of goings-on, which are subtly complex yet lightly handled. This is a seascape but not in the conventional sense.

All my paintings are informed by water and this one by water navigating matter. Delicate veils of paint encounter impasto in a great flow of energy, as if referencing sea encountering rock. An elemental yet dynamic piece.
