Why didn't I tell you? I tried, but you didn't listen Of course, not with words. I tried telling you with my blank stares and shaking hands With my exhausted body and shattered enthusiasm I tried telling you with my silence, But my silence wasn't loud enough It never is, is it? Why didn't I tell you? Because I was proud Proud knowing I survived another day With my battle armor of forced smiles My ammunition of positive reinforcements that seem So easy to give, but not take I was proud knowing I silenced the voices in my head long enough To simply get through the day The voices that muttered traitorous falsities. After all, aren't the voices in my head supposed to be on my side? Why didn't I tell you? I didn't think you cared Because when I got pulled out of class multiple times To go blurt my problems to a shrink, rather than my friend, I guess the red flags weren't bright enough. Because even though I hated it, I tried hoisting my red flags above the red hearts That had imprinted on your eyes. Only to realize that when everything you see is red, Nothing stands out. Why didn't I tell you? Oh I tried. But when you're drowning, opening the mouth Only lets in more water, making it harder to breathe So as I was being pulled under, I let out a desperate shout, Which seemed to awaken you from your haze If only for a useless moment Now you glance at my wrists To make sure I'm okay And I smile in sorrow Because I was never stupid enough to hurt myself In places that could be seen in the day. So why didn't tell you? Because in the end, nothing changed anyways.
