You know Descendants could have at least tried to justify/explain why all the villains were alive again instead of literally just plot convenience to allow Mal, Evie, Uma, Gil, and how-many-other VKs to exist. Give us some kind of story. Some kind of actual reason behind “this moron made a choice (that doesn’t fit at all with the character he’s supposed to be) and because he’s king it happened.”
For instance, in one of my fics I gave the history that Hades, intending to get revenge on Hercules and all the land of heroes, collected the dead souls of the villains and intended to unleash them back upon the mortal world to get revenge. The heroes got word of this and decided to beat him to it, resurrecting the villains of their own accord and imprisoning them to make sure the lands were safe.
See, not a perfect reason, but at least it’s better than the one we got.
To be fair, I also do enjoy the theory that one of the blogs I follow (I believe it may have been @ishiphumasohard?) came up with: that King Beast tried to bring the villains back and give them a second chance, hoping they would find love and reform like he had, and obviously that failed, the island fell into complete chaos, and crushed by his failure he tried to ignore it. Hence the state it’s in today.
But again, it all boils down to lack of any explanation at all, and that continues to infuriate me to no end at all.
