Started reading The Women Outside by Stephanie Golden, very fascinating book so far. It's about homeless women. In this chapter she went over the factors that played a part in becoming homeless for the women she knows. This short paragraph really highlights the problem with relying on men and being dependent on a man. Men treat women as commodities that can be discarded at any time. When all your administrative papers, assets and accounts are under your husband's name your security becomes contingent on a man. That is one of the core tenant of the nuclear family. That's why we should encourage girls and women to handle all their paper work by themselves; because what happens when the man you're dependent on leaves you or dies? I think administrative independence is one element of female separatism that isn't often highlighted when we talk about separatism here (at least in my circles) but I think it deserves a spot! Speaking as someone with low literacy when it comes to paper work and bureaucratic language
I swear there is no better birth control than reading r/AmItheAsshole everyday. So many stories show that women should not partner with or procreate with men. And compared to Reddit in general, it seems like the subreddit’s commenters are more sympathetic towards womenÂ
I hate men so much it’s unreal. I literally can’t comprehend how some radical feminist could be with a man. I don’t understand how they still believe “not all men”, “most men but not mine”. I honestly can’t take any feminist discourse from anyone partnered with a man seriously.
I understand people want to be partnered. And for straight women, men are the only choice for romantic partnership. But if someone really believes in “not all men” in a form so that they feel safe in a relationship with a man, I don’t think that person really grasps the reality. Not everyone has to, but I don’t have to take their takes seriously either.
Like I’m bisexual but I’d rather never have sex than to be with a man.
One of the most important thing Romani feminists can do is be a female separatist. So many Romani girls grow up being explicitly told they need to marry a man and to have children. They are raised being told male authority is the most important one and they should dedicate their time and their money to supporting men - their relatives, their boyfriends, their male friends. This is very harmful considering men don't hesitate to harm us. IPV, sexual assault and domestic violence rates are higher among Romani women than the general female population. I have seen my female relatives dropping out of high school to take care of the kids they had with their adult male partners, and I have seen my female relatives being stuck in unfulfilling relationships and cutting me and their other female relatives off without blinking an eye when we were criticizing these relationships. That's why it's important to show young Romani girls that it is possible not to marry a man and to prioritize other women instead of men
