Those Hills Aren’t Going To Run Themselves

I think it took me longer to write the recap than it did to run the marathon. A few weeks ago, I was in Arizona for the Phoenix Marathon. I ran it last year trying to chase down 3:30 (sound familiar), but was ignoring an injury that ended up slowing me down. This year, I had aspirations of making another run at it (literally), but my training was practically non-existent leading up to it.

I decided before the race that I was not going to look at my watch until I was on the very last mile. I was trying to break my 1:37 half marathon PR from almost exactly 1 year ago. When I pulled back my arm sleeve I was not sure how close or how far I was going to be.

Typically when I run the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego races, I bring wifey and the First Lady down with me. We’ve done the Zoo and the beach the past two years after I run the full marathon. This year, I decided to rock the half distance and roll solo. There was going to be a lot going on with the launch of #WeRunSocial as well as doing several races the day before (RnRSD 5K and shakeout run)as well…

The best thing about a race weekend is that you get an opportunity to be around people who understand your crazy. Last weekend, was the Rock ‘n Roll San Diego Half and Full Marathon — there was also a 5K on Saturday which many of us signed up for to complete the “Remix Challenge” (2 races, 3 medals).

In the middle of all this, it was also sort of the official-unofficial launch of #WeRunSocialat…

The San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll weekend is quickly approaching. It’s going to be a weekend filled with some running, some special events, more running, and meet ups, so let’s get right into it.

Race trimmings.

Just a quick post today with two tidbits:

First off, a post mortem from yesterday’s race: The Santa To The Sea Half Marathon.

Yup, this was my last race of 2014… race #17 of 17.

My goal time for the race was simply to come in at 2:10:00 or below.

Fortunately, my legs didn’t let me down and I crossed the finish line with a whole 6 seconds to spare.
