Indira Malina Weston, formerly Patel, did not have the easiest life growing up. She was born on May 5th, 1991, and named after her maternal grandmother who had died just months prior to her birth. Her mother, Reena, was an incredibly brilliant surgeon in Washington D.C., and met her father, Joseph, the son of the wealthy couple who owned the hospital where she worked, at hospital charity event, and after one too many drinks, one thing lead to another, and nine months later, Indira appeared. Reena knew that Joseph was not fit to be a father, he had been raised on money and a lack of responsibility, and it wasn’t long after she found out she was pregnant, that she also found out how heavily he used drugs, causing her to make the decision that she would raise her child alone. Reena had taken much care to prepare for her baby girl, however, nothing could prepare her for the complications of her birth, complications that would cause Reena to die before ever even being allowed to hold Indira. With both of her parents having already passed away, Indira ended up in the hands of Joseph anyways. Or more so, in the hands of his parents, who mostly raised her. When she was just a year old, her grandmother was diagnosed with alzheimer’s, and then when she was three, her grandfather passed away from a heart attack, leaving her in the completely incapable hands of Joseph once again.
It wasn’t that Joseph didn’t love his daughter, he did, and he wanted to take care of her, but he’d never worked a day in his life, and was much too concerned with his next high to worry about Indira. For the next three years, her father hired nanny after nanny to take care of her, using the massive amount of money his family had left him to pay for them, until finally, when she was six, he decided to up and move them both to LA, she’d never know why, being so young, he’d never given her an explanation, but she remembered very clearly that this was when things got much worse. Suddenly, he didn’t care to hire her a nanny, all he cared about was getting high, there were times that Indie went days without food, or a bath, sometimes it would be days that she didn’t even see her father, he’d never re-enrolled her in school, and since they had no other family, and all of their friends back in in DC, there was no one to see that what was happening was wrong. It was in this year, that her father, who had been so consumed by drug use, shot up in front of her on more than one occasion, including the last time, when he then fell to the floor and began seizing in front of her. Indie was only a month away from 7, and had no idea what she was meant to do, so she just hugged him, and cried, hoping that it would stop, hoping that he would sleep it off, as he had so many times before. It was only after days of him laying there, that he began to smell, forcing her to finally leave the house and knock on a neighbors door to ask for help.
Things after that were a whirlwind, all of his friends that she remembered from DC came to the funeral, and commented on how skinny she was, and how sad it was. One of his friends, with a daughter around her age said that she could stay with them, it was also him who insisted that all of his money, the money he’d inherited from his parents, be put in a trust that couldn’t be touched until she was 21. Indie packed her things, going back to DC with them, and for the first time since her grandparents were alive, she was well cared for, she was finally back in school, though a year behind, but things were good. Though it was short lived, the courts wouldn’t give them custody of her, deciding that she should be living in the state where she was from, as to not shock her with too much change, despite the fact that she’d been all but one year of her life in DC anyways. It was then that Indie was placed in the foster care system.
She bounced around from home to home quite a bit, never staying anywhere for more than a year. And as she got older, she seemed to fall more into the role of mother in most of her homes, being put in charge of taking care of the younger foster kids, and there were always so many to take care of, as most homes took in as many as they could to get more money. Indie learned quickly to not let on about her family money, most caseworkers were too overworked to remember it and mention it to the foster parents, and those times they did find out, it just lead to trouble for her. She’d be chastised for being a spoiled rich girl, bullied for how she cost so much when she had money of her own. It wasn’t as if she could touch it, she couldn’t give it to them if she wanted to, but they seemed to feel that it was her just misbehaving. So she learned to pretend she had nothing, because really, until she was 21 she did have nothing.
There were many things she saw and experienced in foster care that she wished she could forget, and yet there were some people that she wished she never had to leave. But in general, being thrown into all of those motherly roles, it made her more compassionate, she slid into that role easily, her heart growing with each new foster sibling she was told to care for. And it wasn’t all bad, she’d even ended up in a good home or two in that time, but none of it ever lasted. From when she turned 7, until she was 14, she’d been in a total of 12 different homes, when she was finally adopted by the Westons.
She was wary at first, not having had much time to get to know them before hand, but they seemed kind enough, and they had their own money, so she didn’t have to worry about hers, still it took years for her to admit to it, for her to feel open enough to talk about her past with her parents or new siblings. But she did feel accepted by them, and though it also took time, she eventually felt that she wasn’t meant to take care of her siblings, she was just meant to be one of them. Though, she still tries to mother them, she is sure they get quite annoyed by it. It was also when she was adopted that she began to go by the name Malina, her middle name, or Lina for short.
Now, as she’s gotten older, realizing more about what it was that she went through, it wasn’t long before she decided to use her life and fortune to do something to help. It felt like an obvious choice for her to go into social work, to help the little girls like her that needed it, but it never truly felt right to her. She still wants to help, but she doesn’t know how. She’s just decided to come back to school, trying to find what it is that will speak to her.
BABY, THERE'S NO OTHER SUPERSTAR
Lina leaves her hair it’s natural color, though likes to play with styling it different ways. She generally dresses in whatever she finds stylish, that could be jeans and t shirt today, and short skirts and crop tops the next. Mostly, she just finds anything and tries to make it work.
YOU KNOW THAT I'LL BE YOUR PAPARAZZI
Weston was a common name, in it’s time, though everyone knew of the Westons. They were hollywoods it couple. Taylor was a single name. Every other Taylor in the world was completely irrelevant. Taylor Weston had a complete capital on the pop music world. Braden, on the other hand was one of the biggest producers in the industry, though not as a common house hold name. Which is also why, though untraditional, Braden Simcox took her last name when the two married.
[Delivered to Lina’s first class because Easton is extra like that. Plus, publicity y’know?]
