As a tech guy, I usually love cutting-edge breakthroughs. The medical applications they are pitching—like micro-sensors hunting down diseases from inside our bloodstream—are absolutely incredible. But as I kept digging into the whitepapers, I could not stop thinking about the massive privacy nightmare this creates.
We can unplug our smart speakers. We can leave our smartphones in the other room. But how do you unplug a microscopic microphone floating in the air you breathe? The idea that our absolute safest, most private moments could be harvested, turned into tiny data packets, and sold to giant corporations is straight-up dystopian.
