Flock of Dimes is the solo project of Wye Oak's leading-lady Jenn Wasner. "Prison Bride" marks the debut release from the project and it is nothing short of gorgeous. Flock of Dimes has the same droning nature that features heavily in Wye Oak's music, but it is considerably more layered and has more happening. Instead of creating dynamics from minimalism, there is a continuity to "Prison Bride" that allows for layers to become more prominent upon multiple listens. The song is the A-side to a 7" vinyl release that will be released on April 19 (Friends Records, pre-order here) to coincide with a short set of tour dates in late April where Flock of Dimes will be supporting Sharon Van Etten, beginning at the Ottobar in Baltimore. The B-side to the release is "I Can't Tell You Why (screwed mix)," Flock of Dimes' take on the Eagles' 1979 hit. The physical release will be limited to 500 copies on orange vinyl, so I suggest you pre-order now. In the meantime, play "Prison Bride" over and over again and hope that we'll hear more new music soon from Flock of Dimes.
