These are the opening illustration and the coloured page for the second chapter of Takeuchi’s first mini-series Gradation, titled Saura - Sunset and published on the September 1987 issue of Nakayoshi Deluxe. This is the very first time publishing coloured artwork for Naoko! Image credits to Miss Dream.
The next series of posts is going to be devoted to Takeuchi’s art for the covers of Nakayoshi and other magazines! This picture marks the first time she got to be featured in such a prominent position, although she wasn’t given the spotlight - in fact, I’d be grateful if someone could tell me who the cover artist is! Still, being featured in a tiny spot on the sidecover is something (Naoko’s piece is the top one, in case you were wondering). This is the September 1987 issue of Nakayoshi Deluxe, which hosted the second chapter of Takeuchi’s first mini-series Gradation - you can even note that the cover makes it a point to announce that this instalment is going to be extra-long and feature colour pages!
