Why does the left eye gore fascinate you so? Is there a reason for a specific eye or character blindness? Just curious 🤧🙌
Technically, I am not interested in the gore itself 😅 if I write/read Loid losing his eye in fics, or if it happens in canon, I want it to either happen fast or immediately skip the entire procedure and just cut to him already bandaged and in a lot of pain but this time with his eye missing.
So anyway I had seen spoilers ages ago, about him getting injured twice near his left eye in his backstory. And, now they're part of anime canon too.
Both that brick and that bullet missed his eye by millimetres, and it seemed like both times his helmet protected him from bigger, almost certainly fatal, damage.
Also, the second time was a more serious injury (it was a bullet, after all) so the military patched him up, and I assume they also covered his eye because the injury required not only a big enough bandage, but also for him to not accidentally tug at it every time he blinked.
So after that comes the Rule of Three. The first two are the set-up, and an execution will follow. Also, I'm a little more biased due to my native language, because we have a saying that goes like "the third time is the virulent", sorta like "third time's the charm" but it's used equally in positive (sarcastically) and negative contexts. That was my immediate thought upon seeing spoilers that he was injured twice near his eye.
I find it interesting that it was two times, the second more intense than the first. Endo specifically chose to have him injured like that in war - and that's an environment where literally any injury can happen, but he chose this to happen twice. For whump fans, he might as well have hung up a carrot for us to chase around.
Second, because the WISE symbol is an eye.
I haven't spoken a lot about it, but even before and especially after seeing the way [redacted] was recruited, I am very skeptical of WISE's methods. Yes, they're aiming for peace, but so was [redacted]'s dad when he slapped him. To them it's a very "the ends justify the means" thing and while I get why they're doing it, it's brutal to think that their agents are sacrificing their lives and well-beings for the greater good. The war never ended for them.
They've taken a lot from Twilight, and he already didn't have much left to begin with. And since their symbol is an eye, maybe towards the end of the story, when he'll end up wanting to stay with his family, he will also lose his eye too. It may end up being another reason why he could be motivated to retire, at least from field work.
Third, the medium itself. Manga and anime have a plethora of one-eyed characters, and while their disability can be part of the narrative... I understand that having a manga/anime character lose an eye immediately makes them much easier to draw, since you only have to bother drawing one eye and not worry about drawing a second that matches. And I'm not saying that in a derogatory way. I understand the huge amount of work manga and anime creators are expected to complete within small amounts of time and with small pay for it. In an ironic way, that leads to more disability representation. I haven't looked deep into that so I don't know if it's good representation, but at least there's the potential for it.
Finally, it's definitely my whumper side reaching with grabby hands for more whump and trauma. If it ends up happening, the narrative will most likely focus on how shocking it will be for the character, while I will be over in the corner cackling like a cartoon villain. I certainly don't demand people to invest in this theory or patiently wait for it like I do 😂
(plus, he would be my third disabled blorbo. I would be getting a good grade in having diverse blorbos, which is normal to want and possible to achieve)
