When I bought this brother printer it was after extensive research into the few models that allow non oem ink and we've happily used and shared and recommended this printer. About six months ago, a firmware update disabled all non Inobella brand ink and bricked the printer so I had to buy the expensive brand name stuff to get it working and disabled updates, disabled their standby mode that drains batteries and have been manually refilling the cartridge with the previously bought ink. Now a week ago, mum pressed yes on the "you need to upgrade" screen and it's counting the pages printed and rejects full legit ink cartridges for having printed x amount of times. I'm going to have to do extensive research to get the correct files and codes, downgrade the firmware so we can afford to use the printer. The brand name ink costs more per gram than gold. I'm amazed no anti monopoly laws apply here. The time it bricked required a 90$ set of 4 inks and we print mostly greyscale but this thing requires all 4. That's going to be the rest of my day.
This is your periodic reminder to not allow win10 to update to win11. Windows wants to have approval over what runs on your computer in the same way as the apple app store. I suspect they'll make it very hard to rollback too.
