For my cover I really wanted to use an image that would communicate the main article well. As I decided to do it on the contrast between new and old architecture in Birmingham, I chose this image. I thought it left enough space for me to use for the information on the cover and had some nice angles I could work with. For the masthead I opted to focus on the A of Arkitekt, using that as the masthead and having the full name elsewhere. I think this makes it stand out better, especially since having the full name didn’t fit very nicely with the photo.

I feel like this spread came together a lot easier than the second, I already had an idea of what I wanted to do with it and that worked really well with my imagery too. It took refining of course but the general layout stayed pretty much the same, though of course I did scamp a lot of options for the first spread.

The second spread was definitely harder as I needed to get more body in while still keeping it engaging and exciting. As the image on the left already had a lot of column like lines in it, I chose to chop it up along with the columns and move the pieces, which I think really mimics the steps up along the buildings that you can see in the original photo. This design looks pretty simple but it took me a while to get there, but I think it looks good!
