The iconic and instantly classic album, #PurpleRain, came out today 35 years ago. I remember one day, it was over 10 years ago, a bunch of us were just hanging out in an empty apartment with some drinks and a CD player. My adult niece and self professed music snob (she worked at major music store in NYC when she was in college there) later commented about that day. "Everyone there was about the same age [but her] but of all different backgrounds: Latino, Asian, White. You played Purple Rain from start to finish. You all knew the words and the order of the songs! And acted out some of the scenes from the movie while singing along with Prince! (Think Darling Nikki) I've never seen such a diverse group of people know one album so well!" #Prince and his music transcended all genres, genders, backgrounds of any type (ethnic, socio-economic, political), shoot even generations (mama was fan too). In 1984, he was not the rock star to most of us quite yet, but he knew his genius would permeate millions of our minds, hearts and souls.
