Faceups 10-25-2020

One day my titles will have a solid convention that does not change.

Anyways, this last week, I made a LOT of progress on my faceups!

December is REALLY coming together I am honestly so thrilled for them because they have plenty of clothes to choose from and I think I am going to have a HUGE blast showing them off and doing photoshoots.

Keilani is getting there too but I’m not 100% happy with it yet. I think I strayed from what I originally wanted so if I end up feeling unsatisfied with another pass, I might wipe her and start again.

Paige is making me pretty happy though! I’m pretty excited to get her closer and closer to completion.

Constellation got some more blush - I blushed her forehead to simmer down the very sharp contours she had before, blushed her nose and touched up her lips. I’m gonna try and do another pass on her lips to solidify the color and even it out but then I think she will be done!

I started blushing Prim, just a light layer!

I TRIED blushing Yvaine but despite how toothy she felt, she couldn’t keep anything on her for shit. We will spray and try again lol.

3/11/2021 Midnight Faceup Playing

Okay so I have insomnia and decided to check on these three neglected kids and their faceups.

So I like the coloring I have so far for Prim’s blushing but somewhere in the last year, you can see her lip chipped so I’m not sure if that means I should start over or if I can just spray MSC and go over it again. We will see!

I tested out some colors on Yvaine and the tooth seems good enough to have kept this time! I don’t know how I feel about this because this wasn’t exactly what I had in mind but also kind of exactly what I had in mind just not executed perfectly! So I’m open to wiping her and trying again but I might keep it for a little while and keep trying.

Keilani I have decided to wipe because Im pretty unhappy with how she is coming out! So this will be the last picture of her like this and I will restart her faceup soon!

Faceup Updates!

The ultimate goal would be finishing December in December (har har) and Constellation is so close to also being done that that I would adore finishing both of these babies by then! However, the snow is starting and it’s pretty cold so that might not happen~

WHICH IS FINE! I want to get them done but I’m not willing to rush this at all and I might end up recruiting Bee to help me with the final portions because she is a faceup wizard~

Faceups: 7/26/2020 - PARTY TIME

Just the world’s hugest thank you to @beedaleebjd who has given me the most incredible emotional support over doing faceups. Just getting her critique and confirmation and feedback has been wonderful for my nerves in helping me progress and take on faceups and now SIX of my eight BJDs are now in faceup hell.

Amazing things happened today!

First of all, December has a first layer of eye shadow now and a first layer of brows too! And it’s looking good? Shockingly?? Like I did that?? I mean it’s definitely not the world’s most perfect faceup but I’m proud of the shape and I’m so excited that they’re coming together because I’m waiting on an Alice’s Collection order with more clothes and SHOES and they will have some really gorgeous, complete looks soon and I’m so hype.

Then we have Keilani who I blushed and got a first layer of eyeshadow and pink lipstick on! I really want the eye shadow to be kinda natural and her lips pastel and I’m so SO excited that she’s finally started and I am feeling good about the start.

Paige has her first layer of brows too!! I can’t believe it it’s HAPPENING my tiny girl has eyebrows started this is so nuts! She has an order of clothes from a sweetie on Instagram coming so I am excited because I have had her longer than December and she has like a scarf and a single top that match her aesthetic at all.

Last but not least, I will be touch up Litsa’s faceup since I ADORE IT but she is an older sculpt and yellowing/fading has happened and I want to give her some color back to her face!

So! I restarted December’s faceup finally and as you can see by the incredibly gentle blushing, that I am going to take her at a slow careful pace.

I also started on this little lady! Just a light layer of blush for the moment! I want to take my time with her and make sure I’m appropriately working with her resin color.

December Face-Up Attempt

So I’m not proud of this at all, but this is a crafting blog for dolls goddamnit so I am gonna show you guys every time I fuck up too. I think I will look back happily on how I have improved when I get to a better place.

Anyways, here is my first attempt at a layer of faceup on a BJD aka December. I had numerous problems - the primary one today being that I let my anxiety scare me into bouncing from three different videos and I second guessed my technique every time and the half done techniques blended together to make an absolute mess. Other problems included: being unfamiliar with how easily or difficult resin takes to the material vs the soft plastic on Monster High faces, and I literally forgot that layers were a thing and that I should probably stop for every step for a layer of MSC.

I do think I was very startled at how little pastels cling to resin. My two customs I am working on have very soft faces that easily grabbed onto whatever I was drawing on their faces and I was a little alarmed that it didn’t happen here.

I’m also angry with myself because I tend to approach things rather recklessly but I’m trying to change. This morning, I planned it all out carefully to work against my natural inclinations to be a major chaos kid - however, my self-esteem imploded when I erased and wiped her lips four times. Instead of stopping right then like I should have because I was frustrated and feeling low, I kept forcing myself to do more and we ended up with this monstrosity.

Positive notes - I do feel confident about my color choices so far. The execution is NOT good but I am excited because the color combo is exactly what I imagined for them and it just means I need to work hard at refining my lines and getting used to the mediums I’m working with on resin. I also liked her blushing so far before I started freaking out too much about technique.

I mean it’s not Holy Blushing but it gives me a little confidence boost that not everything I did to them was terrible LOL.

I am also glad, in a way, that I messed up rather fast. I was getting sick with fear over what messing up would mean for me but it happened, I will start over and it will not be a huge deal.
