The news judgement of a lot of media organizations is going to be taxed as they try to figure out what the appropriate way to cover Trump is. This is just one of the many dilemmas he raises--what does being politically neutral mean when the person assuming the presidency is violating fundamental norms of our democratic system? Reporters don't know that, and they don't know how to handle that. So there's a lot of conversations that need to happen in newsrooms. Starting right now. Because norms are already. being established right now... The mistake I think many people have made is to treat now as this kind of interlude before Trump takes office, but things are being normalized. Patterns are already being set. The transition is already underway. By the the time he takes office, a lot of the patterns for how Trump will be covered, how the Democratic party will oppose him, and how the media will portray all of it will be set. It's not to say they can't change, but there's a lot of meaningful changes being made right now, and it's important to be self conscious about those choices, because they could be so consequential.
