#deathsantis & #pRickScott have done more harm to Florida than we even know. Reposted from @tampabaytimes As the California recall campaign intensified in July, Democratic operatives peered at the written responses to their latest survey asking voters about Gov. Gavin Newsom’s handling of the pandemic. One word kept popping up among those who supported Newsom: Florida. The Sunshine State’s deadly coronavirus summer surge helped galvanize California Democrats as Newsom and his allies linked the Republicans on the ballot to DeSantis’ hands-off approach. The strategy prevailed. But does it mean anything for the upcoming 2022 races in Florida? “The only takeaway is Democrats and normal people like not dying from COVID,” says Kevin Cate, a Florida media strategist advising Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried. Fried and fellow Democrat Charlie Crist have routinely criticized DeSantis’ pandemic policies as they seek to replace him. DeSantis didn't endorse in the California race and has shown little indication that the failed recall will change his strategy heading into next year. ✍️ : Steve Contorno / Tampa Bay Times https://www.instagram.com/p/CUTO6XZMLwo/?utm_medium=tumblr
