The Lye & The Coconut(milk)
Yesterday, I bought lye (Rooto, actually) because I'm making pretzels and/or pretzel buns. I know it's poison and all, but I am so excited I can barely contain myself. Now I just need to go buy some goggles and gloves and a mask, because I walked out of the hardware store all giddy with possibilities and forgot about the need for safety gear.Â
True parties begin once you bust out the goggles, gloves and masks. And the thought of making something so tasty that's also potentially dangerous... heh.
As for the coconut part- before I left the house this morning, I made the first round of coconut milk custard base. I bought one of those Hamilton Beach Half Pint mini soft serve ice cream makers, which I am desperately hoping does not suck, because I wanted something easy to use for super small test batches and it seems to fit the bill. And for twenty bucks, how can you knock it?Â
The custard will be nicely chilled when I get home and then we shall see. I also plan on working on the tamarind sorbet this weekend, too.
Fun! I know there's a joke in there about me feeling better, but I was feeling good already, so there's nothing I need to take to relieve my flipper ache.
