Looks get you pretty far

He said ten minutes, but she'd already been there for five by then. When he told her he was five minutes away, she'd been waiting for fifteen.
Fio couldn't hold it against him - there were worse things to be late to, she figured while she loitered outside the cafe. She noted how sparse the customers were, likely from the poor location; right next to a loud corner on a slope, where all the trucks were engine braking to avoid barrelling into the chain-link fence guarding an old rusty railroad behind it.
She imagined being caught off-guard by his approach, where he'd sneak up from behind and surprise her with his smooth-as-velvet voice. And she'd giggle and flirt her way into date number three, or at least to a walk of shame in the morning.
But Fio saw Thokas a whole street away, made eye contact, and waved him down automatically. Goddamnit, she thought as she smiled at him.
"Took your sweet time getting here, hey?" she teased. "What's your order?"
