âRobbery at the bank in 24th and Southâ
Both you and Peter got up, Peter snapping his head at you.
âWhat are you doing?â
âWhat do you mean âwhat am I doing ?ââ You said as you pressed on your bracelet for your suit to materialize onto you. âThereâs a robberyâ you continued.
Peter took his shirt and pants off as you turned to mirror to put your hair up.
How is it that itâs easier for me to get into my suit than it is for Peter.
âYouâre not going out thereâ Peter put one leg into his suit, then the 2nd, followed by the rest of his body before pressing the emblem in the middle to compress it to his body.
âWhy wouldnât I?â
âYou canât be serious. You don't even know what your power is. You just turned yesterday! Y/N youâre staying here.â Peter got close to the window beginning to leave without you. You were quick to get in front of him placing your hand on his suited chest.
âNo, no no. Iâm going.â
Peter scrunched his brows and looked at you.
âPeter. Please. Let me go, I-I canât stay here by myself. Iâll go crazy⌠but, when iâm with you⌠it-it hurts lessâ.
I canât believe I just said that to his face.
He knew what you meant. He knew that the inhuman process has been hard for you the last 24 hours. Peter inhaled through his nose, then slightly nodded looking you back in the eyes. âOkay. But you are not leaving my sightâ The two of you were oddly close. Your interaction had brought both of your faces a mere few inches away from each other. Your heart fluttered, and the two of you stayed close to each other like that, looking each other in the eyes, unmoving, unaware of the time passing, until Tom interrupted.
âKids, the robberyâ
You and Peter snapped out of it, looking away as a slight blush crept to both of your faces and Peter put his mask on. Peter crept up to the window sill of your room, they way you two always did and extended his arm as you got close to him and wrapped his arm around your waist. Releasing his webs to swing you to the robbery, just like you always did. Only this time, it was different. This time the both of you were all too aware how close the two of you were and all too aware how Peter would rub your side unconsciously, that he stopped halfway realizing what he was doing. Suddenly, right now, you were both too aware of each other. Â
This is weird.
Once the two of you arrived to the bank however, it was business as usual. Pushing aside whatever it was that the two of you were feeling in order to get down to business.
âReady Spidey?â
âAlwaysâ
Spider-Man flew into the bank as you followed swiftly behind him with a knock out gun ready in hand. In front of you, you could see hostages in the ground. You glanced to them then back up to Spider-Man who was speaking in a taunting way to the robbers.
âWeâre going to get you guys out of hereâ you said to those nearest you.
A voice boomed through the tiled covered walls of the bank. People stunned at the sudden roar. âWhat did she say?!â
You snapped your head up.
Oh crap.
The robbers were all already so paranoid. One of them had heard you and in order to assert his dominance aggressively walked to you with his pistol waving around beside him.
âI was just telling them, theyâd be okay. Calm down.â You said though your teeth.
Spider-Man and the other 3 men were looking towards your direction. You nodded to him assuring him you had this, before turning back to the one towards you.
âCalm down? CALM DOWN?! Listen here BITCH, this is my only chance to get rich here. I wonât let some stupid heroâs get in my way.â He spoke with more assertiveness stepping closer and closer to you with each word.
You kept your arms down next to you, with the gun in your right hand. âAw, you called me a hero. Iâm kind of new at this, so hearing that means a lot. Thanks so muchâ you teased. He looked at you confused as to why you were saying that, slightly taken off guard before you smirked. The two of you made eye contact, knowing what was about to occur. You slowly put your gun back into your holster, bringing your arms up and your right leg forward.
âLetâs get this over with. Iâve got other things iâm dealing withâ and with that the two of you began to fight. You were a bit unsure of how Spider-Man was doing, all you could here the thwiping of his webs, something that made all of this, so much easier. Spider-Man could easily take town those 3 while you could easily fight this one guy. The two of you were tussling, at this point, it kind of just felt like a practice fight. He pulled out his gun into your view where you grabbed it, the two of you tugging it between both of you, trying to get the upper hand on it.
Spider-Man, was confused as to why his Spider-sense was going off. He was looking around and while he saw the last of the 3 he was fighting still remained, there wasnt anything they could do that would take him by surprise. Almost as soon as he thwipped the last guy to the wall he heard a gunshot go off. He looked down to his body but saw nothing.
He quickly snapped around seeing as you slowly stubbled back from the guy, seemingly stunned. Spidey looked to the last guy and almost immediately grabbed the gun away from him and stuck him to the floor. He wasn't sure if you had gotten hurt yet, but he was mad that he had let this easy take down go on for as long as it did.
âGet out of here!â He said to the hostages who began getting themselves up. Peter ran up to you seeing the blood around your hands as you held on to your torso. You were standing, slightly hunched over with your hands covering your wound as the red blood spilled in between your fingers and you grinded your teeth together. Your breath was shaking and you were already bringing up a cold sweat.
âY/N, Wha-what happened. Oh my god, oh my god. You got shot, you for real got shot.â Peter was freaking out, loosing his sense of what to do. You leaned back against a wall in pain for support, closing your eyes and taking deep breaths. Seeing you like that, in so much pain, it broke Peters heart. He couldn't fully understand what he was feeling or why, or even if he wanted to.
I don't like Y/N, I don't like Y/N, I don't like Y/N.
âSpidey, shut up. I-Iâm fine. Just hurts like hell.â You thought this would hurt a helluva lot more than it did. You had always imagined that something like a bullet piercing your skin open in such a rate of speed would for sure make you double over in pain. But here you were⌠standing⌠in pain of course⌠but standing, not even having made a single scream. You reached out looking for Peter. As soon as you felt him close you grabbed on to him, needing to feel him close.
Oh fuck, I totally like her.
âYouâve been shot. I should have never let you come. I was stupid!â
You rolled your eyes at him and felt the soreness of the wound.
âSpidey, can we just go please. Iâd like to get this bullet out of me. Thank you very muchâ
âRi-right. Youâre right. Sorry.â Â Peter grabbed your waist and helped you walk out of the building, you slowly winced whenever you stepped, each step causing the wound and flesh to grind against each other. As soon as you two were out of the building he swung you back home. Â
He began talking almost immediately as the two of you got back to the compound. âOkay. Let me call Mr. Stark, he-he can help you with that, I mean iâm sure he's gotten shot before. Or maybe thats too basic for him.. well someone could help heââ Peter was rambling. Something he did whenever he was nervous or unsure.
âPeter.â the pain had subsided, however you felt a soreness on your abdomen which you hoped didn't mean you were dying. I mean, theres no way that you had only gotten shot less than 30 minutes ago and it barely hurts now right? Surely, your wound had gotten so numb that you didn't even know you were currently dying. You pressed on your bracelet, allowing your suit to dematerialize, leaving you in the original tank top and pants you had on before. Peter kept his arms around you, wanting to be sure you were okay, while you slowly rolled your shirt up.
âDoes it hurt?â You ignored Peters question as you looked at your wound, getting past all the blood surrounding it.
You could feel Peters breath on your neck as he supported you from behind, looking for the wound as well to see the damage. âWhat theâŚâ You slapped your hands onto your stomach. It was gone. There was no bullet hole, there was no wound. You smoothed your hands repeatedly over the area where you should've still had the bullet hole.
âAr-are you sure you got shot?â You looked at Peter disbelievingly. âPeter, look at all this blood, I definitely did. I-I donât know whaââ
You stopped, yourself. My power. You looked to Peter then walked out of your room, your shirt still rolled up to right below your bra.
âWhat are you doing?â
You walked into the kitchen opening a drawer.
âAnd why are you opening a draâ-WHOA WHOA WHOA. What do you think you're doing?!â
You had grabbed a knife from the drawer and brought up to your arm, creating a huge gash in which blood immediately began to flow through.
âARE YOU CRAZY?!â Â
You quickly glanced up to Peter, before looking back down to the gash you had created.
I really hope iâm right.
âMy inhuman powersâŚâ you started as you threw the knife in the sink. Peter continued staring at you bug eyed with his hands on his head in disbelief. You grabbed a napkin and waited, ignoring the throbbing burning sensation of the cut.
âJust-just give it a sec.â After waiting a couple of minutes you used the napkin to wipe off the blood that had come out of your wound.
Peter brought his hands down and stepped closer to you. âWhoaâ It was gone. Besides the blood on your arm, there was no indication or evidence that you had hurt yourself.
âPeter, I think I can heal myself.â
âSo⌠you canât get hurt?â
âYeah, no. I definitely can. That gun shot? Hurt like hell. But I can heal. So iâm guessing, as long as I don't get blown up to pieces⌠I canât die?â
Peter was still taking all of it in. He thought his radioactive spider bite was weird, but this, well this, beat that. âCoolâ
You moved so the two of you were standing on opposite ends of the kitchen. Unsure of how to continue from here.
âBusiness as usual? Only difference is that I have this⌠enhanced ability⌠I guessâ
âNone of this tells us how this even happened in the first place. How did you have that Alien DNA in you when youâre from a dimension where none of this exists?â
You brought your shirt back down and lifted yourself up onto the kitchen counter. âI donât know. I mean, I can only assume that somehow this portal has opened before and people got through to my world? Iâm not sure, but somehow, it all works out.â
âSo, now that we know your ability⌠can we tell Mr. Stark now?â
âTell me what?â
You straightened out your back as you looked towards the voice, Peter quickly bringing his right hand up to the back of his head. Tony came into view seemingly out of no where into the kitchen.
âM-M- Mr. Stark!â Peter looked between you and Tony, nervous that perhaps you didn't want to tell Tony just yet and now he knows you're hiding something.
You looked to Peter before jumping off the counter and looking to Tony.
âYou know I am currently living here right? And why do you have blood all over you Hopper?â Tony said to Peter as a response to his nervousness and surprise and then to you.
âYeah, uhm Mr. Stark. I need to tell you somethingâ
Tony furrowed his eyebrows waiting for your response, cocking his head just a bit to the side.
âThe other day⌠Peter and I were out on patrol. We-we got caught up in some weird Alien tech thingââ You paused, you didn't know why you were so nervous, but your heart was making that obvious for you and Peter. You glanced over to him and he gave you a slight nod of support.
âTurns out, it was a front for some weird⌠inhuman thing. Ha-Have you heard about the Inhumans?â
Tony nodded âof course I have, not only was it in the news like everywhere when everyone first began getting exposed, but I actually helped Shield with an inhuman incubation chamberâ
âIncubation⌠chambâ OKAY. Anyways⌠well I was exposed to the toxin⌠Mr. Starkâ Tony looked to Peter then back to you. âAnd you obviously didnât turn to ash⌠Are youâare you telling me youâre an inhuman?â
You pursed your lips and nodded.
âYeah, IâI can heal myself.â
Tony looked at you, you couldn't read his face, nor could you tell what he was thinking. Peter looked at you confused at the moment of pause then back to Tony, his mouth slightly parting.
âIs that it?â
You shook your head at his response surprised.
âWhat do you mean âis that it?ââ Peter asked for you.
Tony looked to Peter nonchalantly. âLook kid, iâve dealt with Aliens, super human soldiers, dimension hoppingââ Tony said that part looking at you. âand inhumanâs. From experience, theres always moreâ
You brought your hands out, letting them fall back down with a slapping sound.
âWell, there isnât more, as far as I know⌠this is it.â
âNah, no. I donât believe that.â
I crossed my arms and put my weight onto one hip.
âEh, weâll find out laterââ
âMr. Stark. What do I do?â
Tony looked between you and Peter. âI mean, what have you been doing?â Tony shrugged before continuing. âJust keep doing it. The same way iâm here for Spiderling over here, I can help you out the same way Hopperâ
You let out a sly smile, glancing at Peter who smiled at you back.
âRe-really? Wow, I-I  was not.⌠expecting this. I was sort of expecting some sort of surprise⌠maybe tests? or whatever. But, this is the MCU, so I probably shouldn't beâ
Tony shrugged. âJust donât do anything stupid.â
You looked to Peter with a big smile on your face.
âI guess weâre a team⌠partnerâ
Peter arched an eyebrow. âWhatâs your superhero name?â
Without hesitation you slyly smiled.
âNova.â
Peter smiled back at you, knowing that your superhero name was based off your sister. Tony nodded, speaking allowed what you were all thinking.
âSpider-Man and NovaâŚ. I like it.â
//
After your revelation you spent the next few days trying to find out if there was anything else you could do but to no avail. You stayed inside a lot of time purposely hurting yourself to see the extent to your healing abilities, something Peter would stop immediately whenever he was around.
âJust test it when weâre out on patrol or something!â Peter would say. Peter was with you consistently. He couldnât lie, you getting shot scared him half to death. It also showed him that he had fallen for you, slowly and then swiftly. He didn't know how you felt about him, but he knew he wanted to give it a shot. You had been training all day. You were not only physically exhausted but mentally as well. Peter had stayed by your side consistently.
âPeter, you should head homeâ You said as you brought your hands down from the punching bag. Peter continued looking at the floor not hearing you. âPeter..â you said once more. When he didnât respond the second time you went up to him and crouched down to his level. âPeter.â He jolted up in response looking up to you in a daze. âYou okay?â
He shook his head a bit to be more aware before answering. âYeah, sorry. I-I just zoned out.â
You nodded as you stood up. âYou should go home. Youâve been staying at the compound since everything happened. Iâm sure May would love to have you stay with her againâ
âYeah, maybeâŚâ
You nodded and began going back to the punching bag you were practicing on.
âY/N?â You stopped and turned back to Peter. âDo youâ do you want to go out⌠to like MoMA?â
âYou mean the museum of modern art?â
Peter nodded. âYeah, I-I mean. I think it would be fun, and a good place for you to catch a-a break. With-with meâŚâ Peter was nervous. He was asking this as a way of a date, and while in his head thats exactly how he thought he was describing it as, you took it as Peter trying to be a good friend. Never in a million years would you have thought that Peter Parker had feelings for you. So never in a million years would you have suspected that this was a date to Peter Parker.
âYeah, actually. Thats sounds really niceâ You smiled.
âReally?â Peters eyes lit up.
âYeah, definitelyâ
And thats how you landed here the next day, at the modern museum of art with Peter, you completely oblivious to the fact that to him this was a date. He never left your side as you strolled through the museum looking at all the art displayed. Most of the time you thought to yourself how similar this MoMA was to the one in your dimension. You stopped at one particular at piece of random shapes. âYou like this one?â Peter asked, his hands in his pockets.
You turned to him and then back to the piece. âIt reminds me of you guysâ Peter turned his head to you a little confused. âI mean.. look at the colors. Red, blue, gold, yellow, black, green, itâs all in this one piece, seemingly chaotically, but if you really look at it they each have a purpose, and in the endââ you said as you took stepped back revealing that the art piece changed to a more linear put together piece âIt all fits⌠and it just works⌠this is literally the Avengersâ. As you continued staring, Peter looked to you. Taking in your features, the way a dimples formed on your cheeks, but only when you smiled wide enough, the way you looked so interested in the art. He realized that he had always liked you, unconsciously he knew that, but you were always dealing with something new that he never thought of what those feelings might mean to him, he never game himself the chance to think of you that way, but now⌠that was all he thought about.
âY/N, youâre amazing, I really don't know why we waited so long to do this..â You looked to Peter a bit confused as to what he meant by that, but before you could answer you heard someone calling out for you.
âY/N!â
âHuh?â You looked around. Peter mildy perplexed as well that anyone other than himself and the Avengers knew you. From within the crowd came the one friend that you had managed to make so far⌠Jess.
âOh, Jess⌠hey!â Jess came up to you with a bright smile on her face. Peter looked between the two of you, still unaware of what was going on.
âUh, Peter. This is⌠Jess. Sheâs a friend, I met her at uh kickboxing. Jess, this isâŚ. Peter, Peter Parker.â Jess and Peter both looked at each other then took a step closer in order to shake hands, and exchange helloâs. Jess turned back to you, adjusting her purse over her shoulder as she held her phone in her opposite hand. âIâve been trying to get into contact with you! What are you doing over here?â
You tucked a loose strand of hair behind your ear. âSorry, iâve just been⌠really busy. But uh, weâre justââ
âOh my goshâŚâ Jess interrupted. âAre you two on a date?â
Your eyes widened while Peterâs cheeks heated up.
âYesâ
âNoâ Both you and Peter said at the same time.
Jess cocked her head in confusion. âOhâŚâ
Peter turned to you âWait⌠this isn't a date?â
You sucked your breath in, glancing at Jess. âIâm sorry.. uh iâm just going to stand⌠over here.. okay bye.â
âI-I didnât realize this was a date Peter..â Peter took a step back, shocked.
âWhat do you mean you didn't realize this was a date?â He was getting upset and his tone was making you defensive. âWell when you asked to go to MoMA you didn't exactly describe it as a date. Peter. I-I thought this was a friend thing!â
Peter let out a huff of air, before grabbing your arm and taking you to the side to speak privately.
âI-I didnt even realize that you liked me.â
What are you doing Y/N.
âI-I donât like you.â He denied. You scrunched your face into one of disbelief and confusion.
âBut you said⌠this was a date?â
Peter being Peter, panicked. He thought that he had not only screwed this all up but that you had no feelings for him what so ever, so he did what he thought was best. He lied.
âNo- I don't like you. I was confused. I figured maybe going out tonight would help, and it did. I definitely do not like you Y/N.â
Youâre an idiot.
âOhâ You swear your heart dropped a thousand feet beneath the ground. You liked Peter, of course you did. I mean who wouldnât? And here he was literally telling you he had no feelings for you.
âWell⌠good. Cause I wouldn't want to mess with the timeline, you know? Youâre supposed to be with MJ⌠so..â You concluded speaking softly. The two of you stayed there, both heart broken over what just happened, both completely unaware of the feelings the two of you had for each other.
âYou know what, iâm actually not feeling that great.. iâm ready to head backâ Peter said timidly.
âUhm, you go ahead without me. I-Iâll catch a ride with Jess or something..â You did not want to get caught in an awkward Lyft ride with the guy who basically just rejected you.
Peter nodded, muttering a soft bye before leaving you there, by yourself.Â
