Research for the Idea.
"learning is..." → ( doesn't need to be the title) • Help communicate idea of an aspect of learning at the National Maritime Museum.
The idea
→ Activity Backpacks in Traders Gallery
• Museum doesn't need to be a "playground" / "fun fair" to be fun for children. • Put reviews found on trip advisor (exhibit not fun for children; digital "stuff" not working ..)
• Explain why do this type of activity? → engage with children in the exhibits; • Improve the exhibits - not separate children from museum.
• Activity Backpacks → engaging families. → Backpacks can be used to target a variety of different audiences (families, schools, informal groups, adults etc.) •Give a voice for families about what works in a museum for them. • Museum should tell the story of our relationship with the sea → make it fascinating for families ans children.
► Engaging Families - successful family program • create "sticky" memories; hands on activities; • no screens and buttons; engage with parents. • Provide a smorgasbord of experiences (create exciting experiences designed for all ages and learning styles) • Send families in a quest (provide families with and opportunity to work together to collect and solve a mystery).
• "Portable Education in Museums"
• Backpacks → activity booklet to help children make discoveries around the museum galleries. • Fun time and learn something ate the same time.
