one of the things i’ve always found refreshing about itachi since the whole plot twist reveal about him IS his gentle nature. he’s the ideal shinobi in that he succeeds in being the cold and calculated killer shinobi society puts value in, but he’s ultimately good-hearted and above all driven by his love for sasuke. his sweetness he’s able to show with people he trusts makes him HIM. even fugaku so much as states this when itachi is about to kill him
[[ I don’t understand, man. I don’t understand this current fandom culture in which people are completely allergic/avoidant to being able to say “this is my preference.”Â
Instead, they want to act like they are the authority on how the media should be interpreted, by themselves and how others should.Â
Itachi IS gentle. This is a canon statement. That doesn’t mean you have to like it/approve of it, but you DO have to acknowledge it. Canon is not subjective and up to personal opinion. It is objective, immutable fact. Again, this doesn’t mean you have to approve of it, or enjoy it.Â
It’s perfectly acceptable to say “This is my preference” with regards to wanting to portray a character in a certain way that is actually OOC (such as aggressive, violent, abusive and controlling Itachi.) No one’s going to take away your character card for it. Write all you want with it, draw all you want, etc.
But the moment you claim the actual character is OOC because they’re not acting like you want him to, that’s when you have to stop. We need to stop acting as if we’re all professional literary critics. Our preferences don’t mean we’re any good at analysis. It’s just a preference. Nothing more, nothing less. ]]
