The experiment was a success! Yay! I didn't destroy the dryer! Yay! So I discovered this thing called "Artfelt" witch is a special water soluble paper that you can use to make thin pieces of felt. The method involved is considerably less time consuming and labor intensive than wet felting. The felt is much thinner and less lumpy as well. You can also felt holes into it making netting or lattice patterns. Artfelt is difficult to find and kind of expensive, with a little more research I discovered that you can use the same methods using water soluble stabilizer which is much easier to find and less expensive. It worked really well! I've cut the time used to make prefelt and felt to about 15-25 mins(not counting the drying time afterwards). It used to take me about an hour to make a sheet of wet felt, sometimes longer, and it was an hour of rolling around a pool noodle back and forth over and over again. It wasn't hard to do, but it was a lot of work. I'm so pleased! You can find rather long and meandering, but informative, videos on Artfelt on YouTube. Maybe later I'll post a more concise step by step tutorial here to save my fellow fiber artists some time and money. Yaaaay!
