Reylo needs to stop
I literally just scrolled through several post stating, in some form or other, that people started shipping Rey and Kylo Ren from the moment they saw them (Rey and Kylo Ren) on screen together.
Can we just talk about this for a second?Â
The first time we see Rey and Kylo Ren together, Rey is terrified for her life, a feeling that stays with her until she escapes. You can literally hear her breathing in fear as he manipulates her body and kidnaps her. She wakes to find herself strapped into a chair as Kylo Ren tortures her in hopes of finding information on Luke Skywalker. Kylo Ren literally terrorizes Rey from the moment they meet and people find his somehow sexual??
I’ve also read several posts in which people try to justify Rey’s torture scene. As if explaining why Kylo Ren is torturing Rey, or how her torture is more ‘personal’ and ‘intimate’ than Poe’s, somehow makes it okay that he has her strapped to a chair while she is crying and shaking in fear. I don’t care how ‘sensitive’ (seriously, wtf) or ‘vulnerable’ you think Kylo Ren is being, it doesn’t change the context of the scene.
I’m not against the enemies to lover trope, it can often create a complex dynamic between two characters. The problem is, that completely changes when person A violates person B.Â
