Sandra trusts John to do a lot of things, but leadership in the office isnât one of them. Even if John hadnât been absent for those two years because of the ambush, I still think that Sandra would groom Richard to be her successor should anything happen to her.Â
In Richard Paulâs defense, he hadnât been able to see the Captain behind the door when he opened it, because a certain someone had thought it funny to blindfold him while he was sleeping at his desk (which he was only doing because he was already clocked out for the day, and was too tired from being up the previous couple of nights because his neighbors were being loud). And he hadnât been able to get the blindfold off on his own.
Sighing, Sandra reached up and yanked off the blindfold. The woman frowned despite the pain it brought. She could already tell she was getting a bump on her forehead.
Accidents happen all the time. Send one of the following for my museâs response.âš For yours to accidentally hit mine in the face with the door.Status: Accepting@precinctjerk
Sandra stumbled back a step as the door slammed against her face. Once she gained her balance, she glared at the offender.
âPaul, Iâm going to give you five minutes to go and get me some ice before I go off on you.â

âSo are yours, Captain,â Richard pointed out thru his chattering teeth.
âItâs just the lipstick making them look that way,â she lied. âJust our luck, getting trapped in a basement on the coldest night of the year.â
John was having quite a lovely day, if being thrown around, Dorian shot and barely managing to still catch the man they had been chasing. With him in custody, Dorian finally fixed and walking around with him, he made his way to his desk.
Paul looked in a terrible mood, and John knew to try and avoid him - despite him standing in the middle of the way with coffee. And he would have passed him no problem.
If his leg didnât lock up and make him stagger slightly, bumping the smaller man. He hissed, gripping the nearest desk - Paulâs, oh joy - to stay upright at least, pain lancing up his leg.
Send me âRIPâ to see how my character reacts to finding out yours has passed away.
âDetective John Kennex, deceased 09:27 in the line of duty.â
Sandraâs mouth went dry at the words, and without thinking, she gripped the desk to keep standing. Sheâd lost a lot of men in her time, but it didnât lessen the blow that every new one struck, especially one like this. John Kennex. Her best friend, former partner, brother in arms.Â
âCaptain?â Richard asked, resting a gentle hand on her shoulder.
He may not have gotten along with Kennex well, but he certainly respected the man, and he knew that Kennex and the captain and known each other longer than theyâd known anyone else in the department.Â
âCaptain,â he said again when she didnât respond, âwhoâs his next of kin? I can make the call.â
After all, the pair of them had needed to stay at the precinct to sift through information. It wasnât like he needed to be out in the field doing something else.
âNo, thank you though, Richard. I appreciate it,â she said hoarsely. âBesides, it would be pointless. Iâm his next of kin.â
Richard couldnât help but feel a bit sorry for John at that. But at the same time, the captain wasnât a bad person to have as your next of kin.Â
âAlright. How about you sit down for a moment, and Iâll get you something to drink.â
Sandra nodded absently.
âSome tea, thanks.â
Richard nodded and left. Sandra let out a long sigh. With John gone⌠she had no idea what to do. She hadnât felt this lost since heâd gone into the coma, but at least there was some hope of him coming back. But not this time. This time, he was gone for good.
