So. Xaurius itself is a pocket universe. If you try going beyond the clouds and funky washes of color to the space beyond, you'll run into white emptiness and eventually be looped back around to Xaurius. When Eastern Xaurius appeared they discovered that if you left the Western shore and traveled across the Locean (lava ocean), you could pass beyond the mist that makes up the boundary and get transported to the far eastern boundary of the Wocean (water ocean)
(They don't actually call it that. I am pushing my luck with my audience enough with Locean XD)
The physical boundary (sans mist) is a large mountain range that bordered the old boundary before Eastern Xaurius appeared.
Western (sometimes called Old Xaurius or just Xaurius) is a land of hot springs, volcanic rock, and stony beaches bordering the Locean. Larger quantities of water were mainly found in underground reservoirs, though some was above ground. Long after the Second Fall (I don't wanna use the word genocide all the time) the gods gained enough power to bring forests and other greenery to Xaurius, as well as more rainfall, surface water, and colder winters.
I don't think I've told y'all how their seasons/lifespans work yet. Adding that to the list of posts lol.
Anyway, old Xaurian plants tended towards things that didn't require as much water. They were either succulents (or had other ways to store water) or tough and not pleasant to eat without cooking. Poison and thorns were also common. Many small animals or insects also had venom or other toxins. It was not meant to be a nice land, it was a punishment and warning. But it was beautiful, in it's way. And much of the plants and wildlife was beautifully colored and patterned. Only prey species with few defensive traits used stealthy coloration.
TBC god can I ramble ❤️
