#pre-workshop thinking

Might we interest you in some book recommendations?? As part of the pre-workshop thinking, several participants have created lists/recs of 3-5(+) of their favorite books. Check them out. (And here is the prompt post.)

We’re very excited about the upcoming workshop Write with Intention (details/sign-up) and, in case you are too, we thought we’d post some pre-work. We’ll be posting 2 prompts/week through December 1, at which point the content will be coming at you at least every other day through to the end of the workshop.  Enjoy! 

Favorite Books

Think: What are 3-5 of your favorite books? (not fanfic-- that’s coming ;))

Bonus prompt: Convince us to read at least one of them!

If you post your response to tumblr, tag @authorsworkshop and/or #intention2020. We’ll round up the responses and post links to them (in a single post) to this blog. 

Favorite fanfics (by someone else)

Think: What are 3-5 of your favorite fanfics written by someone else?

Bonus prompt: Leave a (additional and brand new?) review for one of the authors so effusive, specific, and encouraging, that they might be inspired to write another similar fic. Extra bonus points for also posting it publicly to your tumblr with the author tagged and the fic linked.

Pre-Workshop Thinking: Your Own Writing

Think: What are 3-5 of your favorite pieces that you’ve written? (Can be fanfic or not...) 

Bonus Prompt: Write yourself a positive review, perhaps as if you were a separate fan reading it for the first (or fiftieth) time. As you did for the last prompt, try to make it effusive, specific, and encouraging. Again, extra bonus points for posting it publicly and linking it. (If you’re afraid of coming off as self-important or conceited, you can blame this workshop for the self-plug. In our experience, a healthy ego helps in doing the vulnerable work of editing and publishing. ;)
