It's the natural instinct of already being part bird that has her surviving and knowing exactly what to do. Survival is nothing to her, but the cold...the cold would have certainly made it difficult. She wasn't a fan of it and so when she got the opportunity to pick her guardian that was perfect for this kind of temperature drop, she took it almost immediately.
It's so easy to fall into a more animal-like instinct during times like this, and embarrassingly (maybe not), that's exactly what's going on. Yumine isn't by far a solitary being. She enjoys being surrounded by people, but by picking the Ghostly Gyrfalcon as her guardian, it seems this is what she prefers. She's been hunting, foraging, and creating a nest outside her own home.
