This portrait was a struggle, and it took me a long time painting to get to here. It was a good exercise though. First time using the winsor & newton gouache that I recently got myself, on strathmore toned grey mixed media paper. I didn’t have a clear color idea in mind and usually I get inspired during the painting to move in a certain direction, which I didn’t really have here for the longest time. That also made keeping the contrast more difficult. All in all I am not that happy about this because I think I can do better. It was good for me to take the time to paint this though! It’s all a part of the art journey.
