Power Generation Holds Near Programme Despite Heavy Outages
CEA's monitored Power Generation fleet delivered 4,447.19 MU, or 98.2% of programme, despite 55,674.205 MW being classified under planned, forced and other outages. The monitored fleet totalled 312,333.786 MW, with 256,659.581 MW online. The sharper reliability concern is the 30,866.41 MW Forced Outage block because operators have less control over unplanned losses than scheduled maintenance. Near-programme generation therefore shows successful accommodation of unavailable capacity rather than proof of abundant spare capacity. The figures also measure different things: outage data represent nameplate capacity, while programme achievement measures delivered energy. The missing information is the operating reserve consumed, replacement-generation cost and hours when unavailable units were most needed. Future snapshots will show whether Power Plant Availability improves without higher costs or tighter system margins.
