Well here goes nothing...
She tramples his feelings underfoot
Like some diseased and rotting root
It's almost like she doesn't care
Actually she doesn't know they're there
She tells him the problems she's going through
Silently he's screaming "I want you"
There's no one else from whom he could get pleasure
She is his standard against which to measure
And no one comes close so he doesn't bother to look
Who can warm a heart that's already been took?
But he has his dreams to comfort him in his bed
Forever at night she runs around in his head
Taunting him with what could have been
But his visions are more than images obscene
For he wants her for more than just the sex
Which is the opposite of her most recent ex
As she discovered to her tragic dismay
When she happened to finish work early one day
And taxied back home to the flat they both shared
She opened the door, her mind unprepared
She runs from her failure into the arms of her friend
Because history repeats forever without an end
"I caught him in bed with some blonde tart!"
"I loved him" she sobs, "but he broke my heart"
"You don't even know what love is" he thinks
"It is great, it is pain, tastes sweet though it stinks"
But he keeps thoughts like these to himself
Puts that box back on top of the shelf
He won't let his own feelings get in the way
Though there's lots of damaging things he could say
He chooses not to cause that would make her worse
Never showing his true feelings is his private curse
So he invites her to spend the night at his home
He knows that she won't want to be alone
He also knows that he has a long night ahead
Experience has taught him not to expect bed
But of his complaints there is not a peep
Because he will willingly give up his sleep
To hear her talk about yet another fight
With men who are nowhere close to Mr. Right
Because she likes the guys who are into drugs
And she likes the guys who act like thugs
Yet still she's surprised when she gets used
Cheated on, mentally or physically abused
Men with muscles but virtually no brain
End up cheating it's always the same
And the ones who are addicts are no better or worse
Feeding habits with jewellry stolen from her purse
But still she took them back time and again
Going round and round on the same old train
Because history repeats forever without an end
Barely giving her heart time to mend
The friend's words fall on deaf ears
And it was a while before she could stem her tears
He literally gave her a shoulder to cry on
Holding her tightly until her tears were gone
When she finally calmed she was apologetic
Saying sorry for being so pathetic
Shuddering and sobbing into cold tea
"I'm a mess what must you think of me?"
He smiled to himself "If only you knew"
But telling her was something he couldn't do
Now wasn't the time to think of it anyway
First he had to make sure that she was okay
But her feelings were like a glass house of cards
One wrong word and they crashed down in shards
He comforted her as more tears were shed
Well after midnight he placed her in his bed
A place he'd always wanted her to be
A fact blatantly obvious to all but she
He stood and watched over her as she slept
Until eventually downstairs he crept
And laid his head down for some well earned rest
The days events had put him to the test
He could've took advantage, in fact still could
Any lesser man who felt this way would
His one and only chance of a bedroom tryst
He knew in her needy state she wouldn't resist
In fact she may welcome a man's desire
To prove she still could light that fire
But even in his state he can plainly see
That one night is all it would ever be
And he knows he's worth more than just a rebound
So he keeps his love hidden and makes not a sound
But he can't stop thinking of how much he wants her
And his tired mind finds the image torture
While she sleeps on blissfully unaware
Of the turmoil she's created downstair
Although usually up when morning broke
It was late afternoon before she awoke
It took her a moment to get her bearing
Looking around, her eyes wildly staring
An unfamiliar room:an unfamiliar bed
A shake to rid the cobwebs from her head
And finally she remembered where she was
And the rememberance made her briefly pause
And reflect on all the time that she'd wasted
The bitter tears of regret she tasted
When she thought of her cheating boyfriend
Why hadn't she seen it was all pretend?
With thoughts bordering on the depressed
She got up finding herself still dressed
Easily walked on by those in her bed
She may as well get doormat tattooed on her head
But at least one man treated her like a human
And made her feel like a wanted woman
One who listened without demanding
And it was in his house she was currently standing
He treated her like no other
And now she thought of him like a brother
Sure in the beginning she'd thought he was cute
But being so different from her usual brute
She never gave the thought much of a chance
And then someone else asked her to dance
But in him the seeds of fascination had been sewn
And unknown to her they'd steadily grown
And now he could be described as being obsessed
But his feelings he cannot supress
She made her way down, light as a feather
And started to gather her things together
Last nights resolutions already forgotten
Her cheating boyfriend was no longer rotten
He texted her an apology this morning
So she is going back without warning
She tells herself she won't believe his lies
Betraying the truth behind her own eyes
Deluding herself that he'd already changed
More naieve than fully deranged
She knows he'll probably do it again
But still she gets on the same old train
Ignoring his worst and playing pretend
Because history repeats forever without an end
He awakes as the door closes
Something has fallen he supposes
He looks at the time and realises he slept in
Then remembers why and starts to grin
He rushes upstairs and knocks on his door
Recieving no reply he tries once more
Pushing the door open he is surprised to find
Only the crumpled sheets that she's left behind
He searches the house to confirm she's not there
Just an empty cup and a sprinkling of hair
He sniffs the pillow still fresh with her scent
He hopes she's ok wherever she went
Probably ran back to that cheating prick
How he treats her makes him sick
But at least she's happy for a little while
The wrong guy but he makes her smile
So he swears to himself that it's better this way
As he tries to continue with his day
But both end up alone when the nights are cold
And both have no one with whom to grow old
So if you think that there's no-one for you
Just take a look at these poor two
Maybe you'll find out to your surprise
Your true love's in front of your very eyes
You don't have to travel to the world's end
Sometimes the one you need is your best friend
///THE END///
