Cecilia Aldarondo's incredible film bravely addresses the issues of family, and a painful, often misunderstood and under-discussed issue that I knew little about before working on this project. Although it deals with a specific family going through a specific thing, the issues they are dealing with are universal. In fact, although Puerto Rico seemed like a world away from small town Tennessee where I grew up, and the specifics of this story were very different from my own life, so many of the issues this religious family dealt with are so, so similar to those that mine and many others went through at home. Family and faith can mean many things, and can be such a safe, compassionate, loving place, or it can so painful and full of secrets, judgement, and rejection. Why is it so often it becomes the latter? This film is a reminder of how important it is to chose the former. I'm so proud to have worked on Angelica Negron's incredible score, and that Good Child Music is releasing the soundtrack.
