I love all the little details in this. I'm always a fan of Hughes' strong armed aggressive social skills to defuse situations and Hawkeye's cat ears. Were some of the kitty party details pulled from Midge's kitty birthday? Looking forward to learning more about the Elric brothers back story in this universe

​Thank you so much! It's a lot of fun to use Hughes' weaponized cheerfulness whenever he's dealing with the little stormclouds he spends an inordinate amount of time with.

One of the most fun things about Hawkeye, for me, is the idea of her actually being a very loving person, and loves the people she loves veyr much, but she's just not much of a talker, and words don't mean much. And so it's things like...standing behind the bar making catpucchinos wearing the kitty ears I think she would wear for basically nobody else because she knows ELICIA would like them. (There were actually many details I had to leave out as I screamed 'edwouldn'tnoticeedwouldn'tnoticeedwouldn'tnotice' but THEY WERE THERE) The idea and some of the details were all based off Midgie's kitty party, even though I wasn't allowed to do some of them ahah.

It was really interesting in this one, being like..."Well, how does Ed see this interaction?" and of course Ed and Roy are both loathe to give the other any kind of quarter, so it comes off as being the least charitable way possible.

And yes! I think Ed is, in a world grounded like this, still full of a lot of the same things: The need to try for his brother, the sense that he DOES have a lot of skill couples with this desire for praise that he on the other hand hates having BECAUSE he wants it. He longs for an adult to tell him what to do while also resisting any adult who does it. He wants a parent and rejects anyone who tries. What a dickhead. I could make myself like Ed very easily here, so I suppose I must tread carefully ahah.

Okay yes thank you I am so relieved that came across ahahah. Roy IS most of the things Ed is accusing him of, in at least some way. Roy is bullheaded and hates being wrong and can sometimes do something just to feel like he has control. But also, three things: 1) He's not giving Roy any grace or complexity of person, 2) He's setting aside every way in which HE contributes to the rancid nature of their relationship, 3) A lot of the things he is accusing Roy of, he could be said to be fairly guilty of himself. And yes! If it was never going to work, than there's nothing he could have done, and while I don't think Ed could end up convincing himself to stay down there, I think the surrender is tempting.

(Ed is, in a way that is understandable if you aren't watching--and he isn't--so, so wrong about Hawkeye doing whatever Roy says. Common mistake. I have no idea how I'd get him to start ranting about how Roy told her to hold everything against him, and not like him, because Roy is a jackass--and Hawkeye just goes. 'I don't like you on my own." ahahaha )

Hughes has, I think, a gift for dealing with difficult people in a fairly effortless way, he just knows how to handle them and how to give them the right touch. And he can deal with the ways in which they're kind of ridiculous. I mean, Roy and Hawkeye are both lunatics, in completely separate ways, and I think Hughes can just deal with it so much more nimbly than most. Ed ISN'T that hard for him to deal with, truly.

I can already see Hughes being like "Yes! Get a kitty! All my absolutely not mentally ill friends who are totally normal and experience no problems whatsoever in life LOVE having a kitty, and I bet you, a totally normal person with no problems and zero mental illness, would also love having a kitty!" *Thrusts the tabby cat into his arms*
