"Enchanted Car" Teaser
Harry Potter & Supernatural Crossover
Character(s):Ginevra Weasley, Bobby Singer
A/N: This is ateaser for a crossover I’m working on. (The title is bound to change, btw.) I had almost made Hermione the protagonist, but I felt like Ginny deserved a chance in the limelight. There’s so few Ginny Weasley crossovers and the ones that I stumbled into, had her characterized so poorly. Anyway, I hope you enjoy. I’m more worried about Bobby’s characterization then Ginny’s actually. I hope you like it!
***
There's a blue Ford Anglia for sale. Or rather, to be more precise, the remains of it. The scrapyard had managed to tow all the pieces and a good portion of it could all be fit into boxes. It was wrecked beyond saving, said the old man who owned Singer Salvage Yard. But Ginny, privately disagreed. For a muggle maybe, but for a witch? Casting a reparo should do the trick. And this feels too much like destiny, to trip over a box full of blue Ford Anglia. A car that reminds her of them-- her mom, her dad, her childhood, of everything she has lost and will never see again.
She leans down and caresses a gentle thumb over the turquoise paint job. "How much do you want for it?" Ginny asks, trying not to sound too eager. But she knows an instant later that she has failed, if the narrowing of the old man's eyes were any indication.
"Unlike the other wrecked cars, this en't repairable," Mr. Singer repeats, with a tone of irritation. "Why would ya want it in the first place? Even the engine's toast and some of the parts are too costly ta replace."
She grins at him, in a way her brothers called disarming. "But it's a British car," she says pointedly. "What are the odds, you think, of finding it here, in the States? And besides, my dad ..." Her grin fades, her eyes distant. "He used to own one. It was blue too. It feels like fate, almost, to find one."
"From the way you speak of him, it sounds like..."
Her gaze turns to him only to flit away a fraction of a second later. "He's gone," she confirms, quiet. "As well as my entire family."
"Your entire family?"
There's an odd note in his voice, but Ginny is too distracted, her eyes on a glimmer of blue and her mind on distant memories, to take note that it isn't shock and curiosity in his voice. That his question is purposefully crafted in order to elicit further clarification.
"I had six older brothers," she tells him distantly. "They used to drive me spare, most of the time. Over-protective, the lot of them, and they always found a way to embarrass me with their teasing and pranks. And Mum was the very definition of mollycoddling." She laughs. "And now? Now I'll do anything to see them again, to see my mother and father again. I'd do anything, anything at all, if it meant I could spend just one evening with them at the dining table, for a taste of mother's treacle tarts and mince pies, for everyone to be seated around it, as if nothing had ever happened..."
There was a moment of silence, before Bobby broached it. "If it wouldn't be too much to ask, how did you lose them?"
Ginny straightens and her eyes sharpen as her head swivels towards him. She's standing too stiffly and the tips of her fingers are trembling, but the thing that catches his attention the most is the wariness.
It's an odd reaction, Bobby decides. He supposes that they could have died in a fire or in a natural disaster or something. But most of the people he meets who have lost their families have lost them by supernatural means. And this strange British girl, so far away from home, wiry, with no ounce of fat in her frame, and who carries herself like a soldier and examines all the exits of her room after entering it ...no, there's no way she's a civilian, no ordinary one at least. But she had stepped over the devil's trap like it was nothing, had drunk tea made of holy water and sprinkled with a pinch of salt. He's not sure what she is yet, or what she wants from a box full of useless car parts (and he finds it hard to believe that’s truly what she wants), but fine. He'll figure it out soon enough. He always does.
I think re: family, at eleven, the Winchesters and Castiel would end up in Gryffindor, and Kevin and Charlie would end up in Ravenclaw. But I think Cas would hate it in Gryffindor (the angels are a HORDE of Gryffindors with this very specific and exclusionary and chivalrous and "brave" moral code), and I think Dean would become the consummate Gryffindor cos Dean is adaptive, but kind of have leanings toward Hufflepuff/Slytherin, like Cas. Sam, I think, would PINE for Ravenclaw and/or Slytherin.
(about this)
I agree with you completely there. I was going more like at their current ages rather than as kids, but yep.

In which Hogwarts houses would you put Sam, Dean, Cas, Charlie, kevin? :D
this message was sent 14 hours ago, right before I went to bed, and I’m still thinking about it. my instinct says “Hufflepuff. they’re all in Hufflepuff.” but then the clichéd fandom part of me says “Sam, Charlie and Kevin are in Ravenclaw, Dean’s in Gryffindor, Cas is Hufflepuff”, but then the smart!Dean aficionado in me says “DEAN’S A SMART MOTHERFUCKER, HE GOES IN RAVENCLAW”… as does the part of me that remembers that houses tend to run in families… leading me back to thinking “they’re ALL family, blood related or not, therefore they’re all likely to be in the same house” - and they’re ALL smart motherfuckers (you don’t survive an apocalypse without smarts of one kind or another), so they could ALL be in Ravenclaw. but let’s be honest, “wit beyond measure is man’s greatest treasure” isn’t actually Dean’s thing. (e.g. Cas: “assbutt”. Dean “who’re you calling assbutt… assbutt?”) but then there’s that thing where you get slow-learning Ravenclaws and meany-pants Hufflepuffs and cowardly Gryffindors, so here we go again, screw the system and fuck the patriarchy, they could all be Slytherin for all know, they have the ambition for it. Kevin wants to be President, that sounds like a Slytherin goal to me. Dean and Cas and Sam can be the cutest little snotballs that ever roamed the Earth, but they all have their dark murderous sides. Slytherin? Slytherin. But Charlie… Ravenclaw. Hm, yes. Or Gryffindor. Cas always just screamed Hufflepuff to me. Could totally see him tending to plants and bees, sitting in the sunny dorm rooms and reading.
okay you know what, ignoring the “families go in the same house” thing, I’ll do it based on the traditional qualities of each house, paired with my personal leanings:
Castiel: Hufflepuff
Sam: Hufflepuff
Charlie: Ravenclaw (with Gryffindor leanings)
Dean: Slytherin
Kevin: Slytherin (with Hufflepuff leanings)
THAT WAS HARDER THAN IT SHOULD BE
Oh hey look my dash did a thing and it was a pretty funny thing.
