Clu is gone.
That was the first thing he knew as he woke to a flurry of errors and pain. Clu is gone, and so are the Users. There was no one to answer to, now, and it left him feeling strangely empty as he tried and failed to pull himself up onto his elbows, get a little further from the water’s edge.
He was exhausted. Clu often deprived him of energy and rest just to keep him pliable, easy to control. Not that he needed to, anymore; Rinzler was plenty obedient. But still Clu did it for reasons he could never understand.
The plunge into the sea hadn’t helped either of those things, and he had some minor internal damage from the impact. It was a miracle he’d made it to shore, actually, and he didn’t entirely remember swimming there.
Not that it mattered. With the users gone, no one was coming for him. Rinzler closed his eyes, his helmet resting against the rocky ground.
Flynn, go.
Flynn got away. That was all that mattered.

The soft crunch of footsteps on the jagged shore roused him just as he started to drift, the low broken purr that rattled in his chest picking up a bit in alarm as he raised his head.
He’d lost his discs at some point, he remembered. He had no way to defend himself. He managed to pull himself up, anyway, his hands curling into fists as he looked to see who was there.
