Hey, I'm extremely sorry that I'm answering it this late...Listen, I can go on and on and on about cherik leading a happy, domestic life in Genosha. It's literally my happy place. I won't bore you with how they get back together (Because of course they back together!!!)

And YES!! It takes some time, but slowly, the more he mingles with the Genoshan kids, the more he embraces the idea of guiding them and teaching at the school.

As for the headcanons, here are some of the headcanons I have for Charles and Erik in Genosha.

-First of them is that Charles' hair grows back, because I really can't even imagine Charles losing his luscious luscious locks. So in my imagination, his hair grows back to what it was back at the beginning of Apocalypse. Erik doesn't mind either way, he likes Charles with or without hair.

-Erik has modified his home and most of Genosha to make it accessible for Charles to move around freely. And that's even before Charles agreed to come with him to Genosha.

-Erik's bed is low and narrow. But Charles likes it that way. They wake up everyday snuggled close in each other's arms.

-Erik decides to build a small school for the children of Genosha, which also doubles as a place for orphaned mutants by parents in the mainland. Erik hands over the blueprints of the school to Charles as a present on Valentine's day. Charles is reluctant at first, but later agrees to teach the kids. Slowly, Charles takes over as the school's headmaster. They somewhat become the parent figures to the kids. (What's new there though?)

-Erik trains with the teenagers and the youngsters in the mornings-- his own military in the making. Though Charles accompanies him on most days, on days that are unreasonably cold, he chooses to sleep in. Erik brings him breakfast and hot tea from the community cafetaria on such days.

-Charles has taken to gardening. He has a herb garden outside their home by the pond. It has all the plants to make a strong herbal tea, and Erik makes them just how Charles likes it.

-Erik makes them dinner on some nights when he has the time. They sit on their balcony table and eat under the stars.

-They take long strolls on the beach on leisure evenings and sleep huddled together under the stars (Erik's even re-designed Charles' wheels so that it doesn't dig into the sand).

-Erik returns on some mornings after his run with hand picked flowers from Gwen's flower bed. Charles treats them with at-most care. He places the flowers in a vase by the bedside and is greeted by their scent when he wakes up.

-On one side of the beach is a secluded nook shrouded by the shadow of trees and grass. Between two stout trunks of a tree, Erik's tied a hammock. Charles and Erik snuggle in it on hot days.

-On cold nights, Charles' back acts up. Erik makes him got chocolate, tucks his legs under a heavy blanket and messages his neck and back.

-Summers in Genosha are scalding hot. While Erik just tans under the sun, Charles pinks and frails in the heat. Erik gets Charles a straw hat at the market and they both chuckle under the awning when Charles puts it on.

-Though the Genoshans are weary of Charles at first, they warm up to him readily. Soon, he becomes fondly known by everyone as the Professor.

-Under Erik's insistence, Charles begins to involve himself more and more in the affairs of Genosha.

-While Erik is a master military stratergist, he isn't a very good diplomat. That's where Charles steps in. They're yin and yang. An unstoppable force when they come together.

-At their school, a little girl named Cora-- with brown hair and blue-green eyes-- sits on Charles' lap one afternoon and asks, 'Professor, are you and Magneto our parents?' 'Yes,' Charles says, smiling, 'I suppose we are.'

The more I thought about it, the more my mind went back to this post-XMDP AU (tl;dr: all of Genosha thinks we are a couple but we’re not since Cuba), so you get a little vignette of Cherik Classic Misunderstandings™ after they sleep together for the first time in thirty years.

(Also haha this was supposed to be a drabble but my hand slipped. Anyway, my counter tells me it’s exactly 800 words, so... success? ^^’’’’)

“I think we need to talk.”

Charles doesn’t look away from his book. He lost focus as soon as he sensed Erik on his way back to his own house-container, mind geared in full battle mode, but he knows where his eyes will travel if he looks at Erik now. He can’t play himself like that.

“’Cause if you spend another day studiously ignoring me to avoid addressing what happened, Charles, I swear—”

“And what exactly happened?” He feels Erik’s mind lose its footing for a moment there. Good, Charles thinks. “Seriously, Erik, if you want to break up with someone, you should be in relationship first.”

There’s an angry stomping growing nearer just before his book gets torn away from his hands and thrown onto the small table, and then Erik’s face enters his visual field and, oh, the hickey on Erik’s neck is right where Charles remembered putting it, two days ago. Damn, why did he even look?

Erik looked at the rocky dirt in the early light of the pre-dawn.

Levitating Charles via his chair had been working for the week but was clumsy and inconvenient. And demeaning to Charles.

When he offered Charles a home he neglected to consider the reality of the home he was offering.

Genosha was a retreat and a refuge for mutants, but it had been built without Charles Xavier in mind for rather obvious reasons. Erik was nourishing and cultivating a mutant colony in the same was Charles had been at the school. Maybe not exactly the same way, but close enough. But there were no lifts, no ramps and no paved paths between the clusters of buildings.

There were over three dozen unused shipping containers in a field, Erik had planned to use them for future housing, but he had better plans now.

The first container rose into the air, flattened, then attached itself to the outside of his own shipping container home, where he knew Charles was sleeping. The second folded itself into a twisting ramp to the entrance.

Inside the container that he was sharing with Erik, Charles was shaken awake by the screeching of metal. He grabbed a pillow from Erik’s predictably empty side of the bed and put it over his head to block out whatever project Erik was working on.

Container after container contorted, attaching to various buildings around the compound. Some closer and some further away, varying in volume. Charles decided he wasn’t going to get to sleep and pulled himself into his chair. When he rolled out onto the new balcony, he saw Erik putting the last of the former containers into place.

Charles looks around what really is an ensamble of metals-- he doesn't know what else to call Erik's living situation. Despite the metallic exterior, there's a cosiness to the interior; a rustic earthiness that reflects in the wooden tables, terracotta and soft linens. Much like everything else with Erik; it's Spartan. Somethings never change, and there's a comfort in it Charles is thankful for.

'I hope this is manageable,' Erik says from the door. He walks into the small space and sits on the low plank of wood on Charles' right that would double as a table or a desk. Before Erik, his long legs stretch out carelessly, boots knocking against the wheel of his chair.

Charles watches Erik's legs unfurl, and realising that he's staring, looks away under the guise of assessing the pantry. It's a mercy that his blush isn't be visible in the dim candle light.

Even when Charles could stand to his full height, Erik was taller than him. And for a man who used to complain that the chess table in Charles' study was awfully stunted, the wooden shelves that line the wall opposite Charles are placed oddly low. So is the plank Erik's sitting on, and so is the bed to Charles' left. Now that he's observing, so is everything else . Charles could reach for the cushion lying on the shelf opposite to him without straining, or reach for the pot of tea without difficulty. It's as though the space was built for someone other than just Erik. For someone like Charles.

Oh.

He doesn't dare complete that thought, because that would just be the manifestations of his heart's desires.

Charles must have projected some of his confusion and wistfulness. The next moment, Erik's crouching beside him and tantatively picking his hands from his lap. 'I was hoping for a long time now, Charles,' Erik says like it explains everything. May be it does, may be it doesn't. But Charles doesn't have to rely on words when Erik's pushing a bundle of feelings his way. The longing that came with their unsustained correspondence, the tumble of disires and dispair, hope for a peaceful future, hope for them in it, hope for a home.

Charles closes his eyes and swallows against the protests of his constricting throat. His lips, however, curl up involuntarily.

'What?' Erik huffs out a breath and smirks. 'Never thought you'd associate hope and peace with me?'

'No darling, I had always associated them with you.' Tracing his thumbs over Erik's, Charles says, 'I was right about you. I always was.'

Day 9: Kidnapped

Charles woke up sluggishly and confused. The mattress under him was much harder than he remembered and everything was eerie quiet. Somewhere in his mind he knew that he should be hearing noises of a busy city outside the window and in his head feel the hum of people’s minds, going through their lives. Charles blinked his eyes open, careful when white light burned his retinas at first. Strange, he was sure he had closed the curtains…
