Tord has some residual zombie mutation matterial left in his body that caused some of the healing around the burn area to grow back wrong over time. I like to think the previous zombie-ism is how he survived the explosion. It is not instant healing but he can tank way more damage than a normal human would, and poisons are at worst like bad food poisoning. There is suspicion that he might have an inhuman lifespan as he doesn't age the ways that other people do.

(it would be increadibly messed up if by "inhuman lifespan" people mean like that of a fly and not near immortal. not the case here, just an obsurvation.)

Also cybernetic advancements could have been made by using some of the same gene altering mechanisms of the zombie virus to prevent implants from being rejected by the body.
