Shermie is one of those character types I both love and hate in media. I don't know what the technical term for them is, but I like to cal them Invisible Actors. They exist, somewhere, but we get little to no mention of them, and as much or less screentime.

Emma-May is another example of this, but I digress.

I love these characters because fandom can play with and mold them however they please. But I hate them for the same reason. Bc you always end up with little fandom civil wars.

One chunk of the fandom asserts that Shermie must the baby in TOTS. Another insists that Shermie is older than the twins, and that Caryn was just babysitting. There's no definitive answer either way. (unless you count the fact Alex mentioned offhand they had originally intended Sherm to be the baby, before they realized that would make Shermie too young to be a grandparent without some. Unfortunate life choices. I personally don't.)

Personally, I've always liked the headcanon that Shermie is the most normal of the Pines siblings. House in the suburbs with a white picket fence, loving spouse, 2.5 kids. Maybe a dog. It makes it all the more interesting, with Ford the interdimensional outlaw who nearly ended the world, and Stan the criminal who faked his death for 30 years.

But we have no mention of Shermie from canon. Nothing concrete, anyway. Just a mention of the tiny twins being 'Shermie's grandkids'

Hell, there's not even any mention of Shermie's gender.(I haven't used pronouns for Sherm yet. What gender did you think of them as?)
