Proposal: She takes her car to a mechanic and it's beat for beat like the original movie scene at the dress shop, where the mechanic *tries* to rip her off and she nods along and then eviscerates her with precise technical details.
The rest of Elle's class now shun that mechanics' shop and tell everyone else to as well, so that place ends up going out of businesss, which allows someone else in the class to open up a sparkling pink and perfectly trustworthy shop of his own.

so I guess it was some ancient Greek who said “truth lives at the bottom of a well” and I don’t know what he meant or why it stuck, but I’ve seen a lot of 19th-century references to it (because people always love showing off how much they know about stuff)

this is a common phenomenon. the better you get, the more you recognize flaws. the good thing is you can strive to get better. but the bad thing is that you see nothing but flaws. you are actually getting better, but your editing/critical brain is getting tuned up and can see more things to improve. someone post the graph, I can't find it

So I've seen the post going around that's kind of like "kids should be able to read whatever they want and not have their choices censored by adults" and I largely agree with one caveat which is that children need to be able to opt in. I remember being 12 and sneaking some dirty books, and being interested and excited to read a book with something more sexy in it, and no one died, and everything was fine, and I was not forever scarred. However I do remember being shown a a horror film at seven by a babysitter and not being able to sleep for three weeks, and if I'd known how scary the movie was I wouldn't have wanted to watch it.
Kids can usually know what they can handle. Kids cover their eyes at scary points in films, kids read past stuff they aren't ready for. But it is good to be clear like "Oh that book might have some scary parts you might not like, are you sure you want to get that one?" Or "Oh this book has some grown up things in them that you might have a hard time understanding, I want to check that your okay with that." Like give kids the warnings and options and they will probably make a safe and informed decision. It doesn't have to be either or.
I also think kids should be allowed to be wrong about what they can handle without getting in trouble for it. They should be able to go to the adults in their life and ask for help processing what they saw or read without fear of judgement or punishment.

I hope you don't mind me asking! What is your favorite kind of music? What are some of your favorite ambient sounds? I'm always curious about the noises people like! I feel like everyday I learn that there's so much stuff out there that makes noise

And hmm, thats a toughie. I don't really have a favorite genre of music, but I love listening to music I can sing along with. Not necessarily ones with lyrics, something catchy that has a main melody that I can hum or sing nonsense to is plenty good for me.
I especially love music with a clashing tone and lyricism. Songs that have an upbeat background track but sad lyrics, or vice versa. The dichotomy is just so interesting to me.
Favorite ambient sound is quite easy for me- I love the sound of my cats purring. Extra points when they're both purring nearby.
I'm also a fan of the sound of being around my firepit with friends. The quiet crackle of the flames, the soft chatter of people I care about, the occasional pop when a log snaps, the quiet jingle of my windchime a couple feet away... it reminds me of when I was a kid spending the night with my grandparents, making smores in the dark, when we definitely should have been in bed already.
