Steph is an awkward and sometimes bad friend
I feel like I should say sorry for a lot of the ways I behave...
An apology doesn't seem to be good enough, I know, especially when I can be a bit of an asshole about the whole thing. Or when I know I'm likely to repeat my behavior and not correct it. But some of the problems are the exact opposite of each other. Sometimes when I try to correct my behavior, I overestimate and end up being too extreme in the other direction. I also feel like my presence is really overwhelming sometimes and I don't know if that's true or not. So, basically, I'm rather insecure about my ability to socialize at all, even with friends I've had forever. I'm in a bit of a pinch with one right now, and I don't know how to be a halfway decent friend to give her a call and say sorry. Instead, weeks keep on going by and I haven't talked to her, even when I know she was worried. At the time, I was in a bad place and couldn't converse about these things, so I never answered the text. Now what? Things haven't exactly changed, and I still don't want to talk too much, but I miss my friend.
Another thing to apologize for is that I have a tendency to assume things a lot. I am aware of this instinct, so I try to not attach to any assumptions, and always try to correct myself. But if I do assume things, I'm sorry. And I tend to want to relate things back to me sometimes, as my way of showing that I understand or empathize somehow, but sometimes that's not necessary or I'm not relating right, not quite understanding what you're feeling. And fuck, sorry for that, too. I should just let you talk.
So yeah, I fucking suck. And I know it. And I also am aware that this has been a bit of a self-pitying attitude, which actually pisses me off, because that was not my intention. My intention was to explain some things about myself and why I fuck up sometimes without it being a self-indulgent exploration of myself. And that's the final thing, I suppose. I can be a selfish asshole sometimes. I try not be that way, but I can be. And I fucking am. Sorry.
