The gravity effect : aka why the hell so many walkers are turning up at Spirit High.
So as we know, walkers can sense the presence of other walkers, as part of their general low-level awareness for all things living around them. This is the reason walkers prefer to reside in groups away from big civilizations the buildings and streets and roads etc in a huge city like London or New York block the signals they get from nature.
So a massive collective of walkers sends out a pretty strong signal. All walkers alive today are receiving these 'pulls' or 'signals' way embedded in their subconscious for all the big tribes- but because they've been there for most of the lives of walkers below the age of about 80-90ish, they don't notice them at all. It's like being accustomed to the noise of a fan or cars in the city or something- you don't notice it until it changes.
Because so many walkers are flocking to Lyonessa, it's making a really tiny change in the signals walkers worldwide are receiving. Now it's more or less negligible - it really isn't something big enough to be noticed over such a massive distance- but here's the thing. If you think about the signals in terms of being lights, the walker tribe in the Lakes has slowly been growing 'dimmer' because of the number of them dying off, and the general clandescence and lethargy of the remaining walkers means they've just not been active enough to send out a very strong signal. Like, hibernating animals give off less heat than ones who are active. But since Adrienne's overthrow this year the tribe's gone from 'hibernating' to 'awake' which has caused a pretty big shift in their general activity- it's all gotten quite active up there, in my mind. So walkers 'nearby' (which I hesitate to say because America's p far) are experiencing a change in their senses.
This is especially true of the American walkers, or walkers who don't know who they are/live apart from tribes. In a tribe, the signal coming from outside is masked by the ones coming from all around them, to a certain extent. Walkers who are just coming into their powers- so teenagers and young people- are feeling this change in themselves, which is bringing their attention to their other powers, on some level. It should be pointed out that most of this is unconscious - it's more subtle than 'I have a strange FEELING' but it is the driving force behind the momentum gathering in the walkers worldwide.
Oh, and I should point out that when one walker tribe 'wakes up,' it's begging for nearby tribes to follow suit, like a domino effect. And which tribe is nearest to the Lakes tribe?
