If I was a vampire or any sort of supernatural entity I would literally make it my life's work to brutally and horrifically kill every single one of those people we all know should be in prison but "has a bright future" or "was just doing their job". Once every headline about them just getting paid suspension or community service when they should be in prison is followed by headlines of their body strewn across 6 downtown blocks of their city, people will quit pulling shit, I guarantee it.
Twenty years ago, climate denial was a problem of the right. Today, AI denial is a problem of the left. And the consequences could be even m
Fascinating article, and an excellent followup to a book I just finished by Karen Hao - Empire of the Mind.
What is Zoom Fatigue?
With increased screen time, there has emerged a whole new kind of dis-ease called the ‘zoom fatigue’. It refers to the exhaustion one feels after having attended online classes and meetings and has been named after the widely used video-call platform Zoom. Professor Jeremy Bailenson, founding director of the Stanford Virtual Human Interaction Lab published a paper in the journal Technology, Mind and Behavior on the same.
According to the study, there exist four primary reasons why video chats fatigue humans:
“Excessive amounts of close-up eye contact are highly intense”: Increased eye contact tends to be intimidating for most people, and with online meetings the number of faces perceived to be staring at you drastically increases. Secondly, depending on the screen size, the faces of people on call are either enlarged or minimized to a degree that humans are not naturally accustomed to. When (Virtual)faces of other humans very close to our own face, our brains interpret it as an intense situation. This leads to us constantly being in a hyper-aroused state.
“Seeing yourself during video chats constantly is fatiguing”: It’s as though a mirror came along with you in real life, following you everywhere you go. Professor Bailenson says that constantly seeing one’s face can be stressful as studies show that we are more critical of ourselves when we see our reflections.
“Video chats dramatically reduce our usual mobility”: Research shows movement aids cognitive performance, and this is definitely lacking with the online-medium.
“The cognitive load is much higher in video chats.”: As in-person communication is missing; more efforts need to be put in order to receive non-verbal signals. They could also be misinterpreted depending on the screen and placement orientation of both the doer and the receiver.
And what’s the solution for these then?
Make necessary changes on the screen layout to reduce the size of people’s faces.
Using the ‘hide self-view’ button to minimise seeing yourself on the screen.
Place the screen further away to make the meeting seem more real-life and take breaks from being seated in one position/place.
Take audio-only breaks, and take yours eye off the screen when required.
And so, while times demand that we stay online, and on the screen for more hours, we need to be aware of what is happening with ourselves and the possible solutions of the problems we face given the shift to the online medium.

Thoughts:
With how much these licenses, certifications and colleges cost, your official title should sit well with you.
I really wish they went with medical care practitioner rather than physician associate…I mean…I really would appreciate that title better.
And honestly with people saying it doesn’t make since, the point of all this is to give the new title meaning. If Britain can consider it, why can’t the U.S. its the same language, with nuances yes, but still the same.
Honestly, WE MAKE UP words in English all the time!!! Hell Karen was just a persons name a few years back 😂. We are constantly giving meaning to whatever words we like.
MCP being so close to NP….well, it’s a profession that is close to an np. No one is given PAs the title of nurse.
If you have to explain it, then explain it. Be proud of it. Create your own lane!
Another name: CHP-Clinical Health Practitioner, Is… Praxologist taken? Or Practologist?
I’m Hi Key a Genius: lol Medical Practologist-MP or Certified Practologist-CP Easy to Explain! You specialize in Practicing clinical/ scientific medicine!!!!Lol.
My biggest question is what is the goal of a future PA doctorate or the “Doctorate of Medical Science”
How would a PA doctor have it’s own identity with different duties, other than the assistant?
The nurse practitioner created a complete lane for themselves at this point! To the point of arguable autonomy. A Nurse has choice further down the line.
A PA has limited choice unless they want to take a completely different path…
Update: It’s too close to proctologist… Anywho, I considered the profession until I realized I want my own business in the long run anyway.
