We had a tremendous day Saturday visiting a beautiful estate property in Napa Valley’s Pope Valley. This remote part of northeastern Napa Valley is not as well known but produces most of the grapes that go into the bottle. Our home for a nearly 6 hour tasting was Gratus Vineyards where we were hosted by vintner Thomas Wargovich. We made our way through the entire Gratus portfolio ....some of their library wines ...and then moved to Thomas’ private cellar where he opened wines from other Napa wineries. Full write-up will be on the blog this week but I have to say the Gratus wines are terrific. Not “big Napa Cab” but not quite Old World either. Somewhere delightfully in between. Wait til you read about the 100% Petit Sirah or the 100% Malbec. I had a rejuvenating time in Pope Valley this weekend with my two work BFFs. One of them is leaving SF to pursue her passion in Ojai, but not before sharing with us access to some wonderful land in Pope Valley. We were here for Summer Solstice, and how incredibly lucky we were able to make it back during the winter. It was stunning: the pond full, the fog thick, the air crisp. We stayed warm in the yurt with the wood-burning stove and spent much of our time crafting and honing our visions for what we want this year to bring. Laughter filled our souls. Today, I have much peace and hope. I'm learning to let go what I cannot hold on to and embrace the unknown.
